It's fair to say, when I get the opportunity I have a soft spot for making images a little left of ordinary. Nicole (the model), is very much a young & hip creature who would look far more at home in the pages of iD magazine, so I have no idea why she keeps agreeing to shoot with me - we're polar opposites, but it seems to work out from time to time.
Nicoles online pseudonym is "Ballsy Wallsy", hence the Space Balls title above. The creative cogs in my brain had a fresh coat of WD40.
My wife Maria was, as usual the make up artist here. She had never used a bald cap before and she done a stellar job. Especially with the two hours notice I gave her...
I'm using a single light to camera left here, and a mid-grey seamless background. The makeup and costume took a lot of work, so I didn't want to lose the effect by having a busy background. The light is looking ok, but overall the images are a bit bland. So to make the overall vibe more dyamic, and to stop Nicole taking any more cigarette breaks, I took the smoke to her :)
Smoke machines are just wonderful things, far better than any of those other fancy inventions, like the wheel, or medicine. Except when you don't turn it off in time and can't see anything.
So, happy with the light, happy with the ambience, but still not happy with the overall "je ne sais quoi" (which is the elvish word for photograph, I think). I had some 8' x 4' sheets of black corrugated board in the garden, so I took a drill to them, put them behind Nicole and shot a couple of strobes from the back. I honestly think we were just getting warmed up at this stage and could have shot all night, but it was already very late, and all that makeup had to come off.
Obviously these shots are all straight from camera (well, converted to jpg). I plan to do a retouching and finishing post soon, if that's something people here would like to read?
If I've left out anything obvious, please let me know :)
Thanks for your time, chat soon :)

Hi @photography-help, the only place these would have posted elsewhere is my fb page. Is there a problem? I'm only on day 3 here, don't like having cheetah thrown my direction.
