Preview to Rome through the Broke Traveller's lens - Ep 10

in #photography8 years ago

Just got back from Rome where I had an awesome time with @meanmommy33. Although it was only a short trip, just 3 nights, we managed to get around quite a lot and I was lucky enough to see a big chunk of Rome on the back of our 72 hour transport passes (€18 each). We really enjoyed it for the most part. The only thing that was off-putting was the temperature which hit the +34 degrees Celsius mark.

We stayed in a great Airbnb place we found in the building next to the Teatro Ambra Jovinelli. The location was good but we saw quite a few shady characters around the square, perhaps due to the proximity to the train station, this happens in any major city.

The flat we were in was build on two levels on the 2nd floor of the building on the right of the theater. It had quite a bit of designer touch and was really comfortable to stay in.

As I will make a bigger, better post about Rome soon, here are some more shots I got, with my Nikon D700, around this beautiful city, whilst roasting in the burning heat of the Summer.

Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana or the Colosseo Quadrato, is an icon of New Classical architecture.

This is a shot I took of the COLVMNA·TRAIANI or Trajan's Column. I really wanted to see it as it depicts the Roman - Dacian wars fought in the conflict between Decebal, the Dacian (from Dacia, ancient Romania) king and Trajan, emperor or the Roman Empire. You can guess the outcome...

This shot of me was taken by @meanmommy33 with my D700.

I will make a bigger post about Rome as I have loads of material but, unfortunately, between 2 jobs and my studies, I need to be on the lookout for spare time.

Hope you like the post and please let me know what you think about the images. I really like feedback... :)

That is another high-quality post. As I already said, I'm having problems keeping track with your posting speed. And you do it, without losing quality.
Still the D700 is a very good camera, as we all can see.
I like, how you layout, crop and color the things. All is adjusted carefully. I can see this. Not sure, if someone else has noticed your special touch yet, but I really like it.

Many thanks for your kind words and for noticing the details. I am very much a detail orientated person. I do let some thins slip from time to time but I strive to be consistent and I dislike posting just for the sake of posting. Editing take time as I am sure you are well aware of... And I have precious little time but since I like Steemit so much and the community on here, I try my best to put together some posts and it seems I've done quite a few recently.

Oh, the D700 is wonderful. My only quibble is that it lacks video. But that makes it "pure" in a way, I guess... If I was to add to that, it must be the lack of a 100% viewfinder. There is always more to what you see through the viewfinder in the actual image.

All the best to you and I hope to see a lot more of your work!

You are welcome. The so-called small things make a big thing special. You do this very nicely.
Yes, steeming is for me some kind of meditation. It is really relaxing, but takes a lot of time.
I'm looking forward to read from you sometimes, that you got your new killer-camera, with those features enabled :-)
Thank you, a whish you the same! My next pictue is coming today.

i like it

Glad to hear that! :)

Rome looks to beautiful! I hope I get the chance to go one day

It is a great looking place indeed...all those years of history have left a lot behind for us to see and admire today. Hope you get to see it one day soon!

Beautiful images and looks like a very fun trip. Look forward to more pictures, once you have the time. Sounds like you are VERY busy. Thanks for the look at Rome.

Many thanks and glad to know you liked them! It was a lot of fun but a bit rushed. I would like to return but when it is more like 23 degrees. All the best and thanks for the visit!

What's inside the Palazzo della civiltà italaina? I'm Italian and never heard of that building before.

Also, were you staying near Stazione Termini? It could explain a lot of things..

And 34 degrees is hot, but not too bad... it could always be 40 or more!

I'm not sure but it might be art exhibitions. I hear that Fendi restored it and are using it as its headquarters in Rome. And...yes, to the second one. :) I wouldn't want to be there when it goes to 40 and beyond. I was a bit relieved to get back to Copenhagen where it was something like 22 and windy today but quite sunny.

22 is too low for June!!! Okay I'm from Sardinia and there it can get nasty (yesterday there were 41 degrees in my village!), but still...

Stazione Termini is probably one of the sketchiest places in Rome!

Anyway, as you seem to travel a lot, I will link you an article of mine (not everyone of them, you can surely check them :) ) so that you can budget up while you go from place to place https://steemit.com/travel/@borderedge/how-to-find-the-cheapest-flights-from-anywhere

Oh, sorry! Must have gotten lost in my reply list. 22 is low, but you get used to it fast. Always easier to put more clothes on than having to heal with hot weather. At least that's what I think. Sardinia is super hot, I can imagine. I experienced a bit of that kind of climate when I lived in Malta for almost a year.

Termini is dodgy, no doubt about it. But the place was nice and the few hundred meters to the station weren't that much of a hassle for us to cross. Plus, I am no stranger to sketchy places. I am just checking your posts and sending you some heavy HF19 upvotes... :) All the best!
