infrastructure I ; a Series of Images of Urban Textures, Forms and Beautiful Decay

in #photography8 years ago (edited)

A series of colorful photographic images shot while walking the edges of the beaten path in urban spaces.

I love living in urban spaces and often walk slowly with an eye for the subtle details. I do this often with or without my camera. When I do chose to make a photograph I work to keep it very simple and at the same time beautiful.

The images I show below are the first chapter in a longer series of images and are meant to be seen together. Not seen together in a linear way, instead seen as connected more like a web. Like a lot of my work these images are not bombastic or grandiose, instead they are subtle and compelling in the small details and perspectives.

While the series is not only about urban decay, I find this to be a central theme and within this theme there is a type of weathered beauty that deeply intrigues me.

The images were shot with a proper camera, not cell phone. Don't let their simplicity fool you, this represents quite a large amount of effort .

To paraphrase Andy Goldsworthy; All the work goes into making it look effortless.

I call this body of work "infrastructure". This is part I.

These are awesome! I don't know how you manage to find the beauty in objects like these, it's very impressive. Like in 2, 13, 15, 16, and 17, the colors are so gorgeous! And the rest of them are also very visually pleasing and interesting to look at. I'm always looking forward to your photos :)

Hey, thanks so much for all the positive vibes. I also love your drawings!

nice framing and composition. Rather than scrolling through your interesting images, I would love to see them side-by-side, either two or three across. But they're wonderful and I'm looking forward to more in your series!

Howdy, thanks for the feedback, I will consider putting them side by side to reduce the amount of scrolling for the next round.

These are awesome! They almost have a sort of spooky essence to them, since it's mostly abandoned-looking buildings. Great work!

Thank you very much!

Great collection of urban decay. My favorites = 5 & 17.

These are stunningly beautiful. You have captured the beauty in otherwise ignored objects and infrastructure. Even the colours are surprising. They are all superb but my very favourite one is the one with the paint tearing - the dull colours revealing the bright colour inside almost like blood. It is like the wall has been wounded. Awesome!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate the feedback and the image with the paint peeling is one of personal favorites as well.

Love #4 and #18! Great shapes and colors. Both shots made me do a double-take.

Thanks! Take care friend!

This is a really nice set of photos, you clearly have a good eye for composition. Were these taken with a 'proper camera' or with a smart-phone? For the record, my favourites have got to be "infrastructure 12" and "infrastructure 17"...

Keep up the good work :-D

With a proper camera. My cell phone is usually a piece of junk. I did just buy Moto G4 midrange phone so that will be the nicest I have had starting today after the I get it up and running... maybe it will produce some decent images.

awesome as always

Thanks glamdoll, I sure could use a cold soda right now!! Twas hot here in ABQ

wow these are some extremely nice pictures! good job!

Great! I really enjoy the aging patterns and textures.

Hey, thank you!

It doesn't take nature very long to reassert who is in control of the planet.

Great photos! I've always enjoyed these urban exploration type photos. Thanks for sharing.

These are great. I think I like best infrastructure 2 and 13.

Thank you very much for the feedback!

Hey, these photos are great! Off the bat I realized that this set was going to be rich because of the intricate and intimate relationship between the purple and the orange in the first pic, and the green in the follow up sold me. All of these have solid compositions and good subjects. I do some photography myself, and so it's just very apparent to me that these are respectable and quality photographs. Everyone of them had their own strengths, like the composition of 14 is perfect, and the blade in 4 is really interesting. Each piece here could be talked about, and deserves to be.

But that's why I want to talk about how you introduced these photos. First off, kudos for putting text at all. That's a great practice and it was refreshing to see something it that obviously had thought put into it. All I have to say is you should stop being defensive. These photos are great. You don't need to tell me that "although they're subtle, there was a lot of work put into them". It's obvious these are photos that love and passion were poured into. I don't care if you say they took effort, I can see that from the photos. What I want to know is how a particular shot made you feel, how if the urban decay makes you reflect on the typical circumstances of modern day living, or if crumbling infrastructure you think is poetic as a symbol for something larger, or if it means enough on its own.

More "while the series is not only about urban decay, I find this to be a central theme and within this theme there is a type of weathered beauty that deeply intrigues me," less "don't let their simplicity fool you, this represents quite a large amount of effort."

But all in all, top notch post! You wrote well and supplied interesting photos. My favorite was probably the first picture, those colours are fantastic. Thanks for the gallery :)
