B&W or Colour?

in #photography7 years ago (edited)

These photos were captured as we hiked the Larch Valley trail to Minnestimma Lakes, back in the Summer of 2013. You can see the Majestic Valley of the Ten Peaks in the first photo. Truly as great sight to behold! A Sony A77 and DT 16-105mm lens was used. Which do you prefer, the Colour or B&W version?

Very nice!

Black and white always will be more like documental stuff and it has many contrats that you can't appreciate when the picture is in colour... Well, it's just my opinion, I also have posts like this one in my profile about what people prefer colour or BW.
In this case and almost all of your pics, I prefer bw.
Keep doing this great job
Steem-On!

B&W emphasizes textures and shapes, but color shows things as I would see them if I were there. I prefer the latter, but understand preference for the former. Having both is the best of both worlds though, right?

Exactly, well said!

It definitely depends on the subject, textures, and how they're processed. In these images, the black and white images are more effective. The first image, in particular, benefits from the boost in contrast bringing out the clouds. Photos with a lot of texture usually come out really nice in monochrome, with a moderate boost to contrast and detail.

That first shot is very nice. Great work!

Thanks and I appreciate your comment @fotosdenada!

I have to split the ticket on this one as well, I agree with @countrygirl The colors in number one are awesome and work great in that photo, and black and white for number two. Both are outstanding photos either way!

Thanks for looking @jed78!

the first one is beautiful in black/white bc I can see some shadow and the clouds pop more than with the color one - but saying that I like the color one best bc all the colors make sense. However, the second one I like the black/white one best seeing as the grass is really the only color except the greys in the rock. Does that make sense to yoU?

Yes I understand your reasoning!
Thanks for looking @countrygirl

BW, I just love how it makes the picture look vintage and artistic.

Thanks for looking!

Great shot, I prefer the colour version. Following for more:)

I really like the Black & White here.

Thanks @otage appreciate you dropping in!

good post

I love all the photos. Some are in sharper focus (seeing detail) in the black and white, but the colour adds another dimension to the photos.

@cecicastor thanks for your comment!

The pics are all very pretty, but the black and white wins 😁

Very nice! I like it!

I still say I like both! :)
Eg: the first pic: the colour is picturesque & breathtaking! The B&W spells drama (the clouds & rock of the mountain)

Thanks for your comment!

My pleasure!

Of course bw

Welcome to Steemit!

Yeah, thanks for the support.

It must have been a great hike

I think BW - it ads some drama to scene and wow effect :)
However, in my opinion - first photo can be amazing, not just very good, with minor post processing. By adding graduated darkening filter in the sky and another one in the green field before forest, you can lead view to mountains and forest as main subject. It will add more drama to photo and make it more Ansel Adams style. If you never heard of Ansel - google him and his photos, since his amazing style of landscape photography is still role model for thousands of landscape photographers.
Best regards and keep a good work!

Thanks for your comment!

From an "impressive and artsy" point of view I prefere B&W. However I like with colour more, mountains can look too gloomy for my taste in black & white photos.

I get that.
