To a jpop soundtrack.

This guy is always on the same train I take. Always wearing the mask, always with earbuds and music turned up so high all of us near him can hear every word. Usually he listens to jpop but occasionally enka. Enka is fun. I look forward to enka days.

Today’s everyday train brought to you by Hipstamatic, Phototoaster, Snapseed, Mextures, Stackables, Monochromia, and hearing aids.

I post one photo everyday, as well as a haiku and as time allows, videos, more Japanese history, and so on. Let me know if there is anything about Japan you would like to know more about or would like to see.

Who is David?
Hi thereDavid LaSpina is an American photographer lost in Japan, trying to capture the beauty of this country one photo at a time.

Enka definitely beats jpop.

I love trains but I hate to take the bus, especially when it’s full... and in the summer LOL.
Is Enka some form of Japanese music 🎶?

Yes it is. I understand it was especially popular in the 70s and has been declining since, but it's quite interesting actually. Try listening to a few songs on YouTube or whatever, you might love it.

Ok @wllmdnnd,
Thanks I will check it out

I would agree in most cases, but at rush hour the train can be even worse than the bus. And summer rush hour is even worse. Japanese people generally don't think they need deodorant, but — psst — they do.

@wllmdnnd is right about enka. It remains very popular among older folks, but younger people dislike it because it's now considered "old people music". As these things go. It's can actually be quite good. If you saw Kill Bill you probably found yourself enjoying an enka song without even knowing it. Go to youtube and search "kill bill enka"

Yes I remember now 🤓

Absolutely!

That's a cool looking shot. I also like the idea of allowing use of your photos...I have done the same thing in the past, but only ever got one person to use one, I think. I mean they gave me a tip for it so I guess they used it.

Anyway, thanks for inviting us along on your train ride. Good to have you in #thealliance.

Yeah, few people seem to take me up on the offer, or they do it silently without telling and I only discover the usage by doing google image searches. Oh well. The offer is there for anyone who wants to take it.

Thanks for the compliment on the shot :)
