I am going through my images from Auschwitz and making my project when I came across this photo. I am doing the whole project in black and white, but when I saw this little girl's shoe, I knew I had to add color to the image.
Many people see pictures of what happened there at Auschwitz and the images are mostly in black and white, which gives them a timeless feel to them, but it also makes it seem like this happened so long ago. There are still people alive now that survived the horrendous conditions there.
With this photo, I wanted to give the image that timeless feel and the emotion that a black and white image brings, but also bridge that gap of time and make it relevant to people now by bringing it to life with color. The young child that wore that shoe is no longer here on this earth, but thousands of people everyday visit this place and pay their respects to her and the 1.1 million others that suffered there.
There really isn't much else that I can write on this subject other than never forget about these people.

Thank you. You are awesome for sharing this.
That is a heartbreaking image and a very important message.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my image. I truly appreciate it.
Those piles of shoes... This heartbreaking sight will probably remain in my memory forever. I visited Auschwitz when I was like 12, we went there on a school trip.
So many people.... I hate what humans do to each other.
Yeah. And to nature too...
I saw a similar pile at the Holocaust museum in Washington DC. The piles of items from the victims really brings home exactly how many of them there were, and how everything was taken from them before their lives were finally taken. I love you thoughtful edit and the explanation behind it.

I visited Auschwitz two years ago.
I made some pics, also in BW (and made post last year), but there were places, where I just cannot take a shot. The feelings were so strong. I'd like to mankind never forget, but people are so wayward.
Wonderful, @derangedvisions. I especially love your thoughts behind adding that one colored shoe. We should never forget this; thanks for this beautiful visual reminder 💜
