Hi all steemians, who like to do photography, there is a serious problem of fungus damaging the DSLR lenses if not kept properly or exposed to highly humid environment. The commercially available dry box for safe keeping of camera lenses is a costly affair for the casual photographers.
A 60 Second DIY Dry Box:
The prerequisites
- An airtight container ( I am using a 3.7L airtight PET container).
- Some silica gel sachets (plenty of them) or colored silica gels beads for reuse.
- Your lenses.
DIY Recipe( it's as simple as 1-2-3)
- Put the silica gels (fresh sachets) inside the box.
- Place your lenses.
- Finally, close the airtight lid. This setup will provide a dry environment to the lenses. Any moisture will be absorbed by the silica gel.
Change the silica gel sachets frequently to maintain their drying effect. Or recharge the silica gel beads by drying them in a pan.
"there is a serious problem of fungus damaging the DSLR lenses". Be serious... Prove it, please.
Best regards
Okay, it's not complete damage, but fungus do damage the coating which may cost a lot in repairing. I have once got my nikon lens repaired by authorized nikon service center due to fungus.
