Crested Coral (Clavulina coralloides)

in #photographylast month

Hey dear Hiveans, at the beginning I would like to welcome you all to my new post and hope you had a day that brought some interesting experiences into your life! In my new article I would like to share something about a mushroom in more detail and look forward if you can learn new things.

This mushroom is also known as Crested coral or scientifically Clavulina coralloides and it is important to know in advance that it's not an edible mushroom which is not toxic and still sometimes used in the kitchen. It's an often controversial topic and since tastes are known to be different, there are also different reports and some people even call it a real delicacy which can sometimes be found in gastronomy where it is typically used to decorates the plate with the appearance reminiscent of a coral. I would describe the taste as rather bitter, which is why it is probably avoided by some and before consumption, it should always be sufficiently heated in any case and only the specimens that are still in good condition should be consumed. It is not always easy to identify Clavulina coralloides and an important characteristic that people can go after are the parts which are often branched and those who go to search will probably be most successful in coniferous or deciduous forests where it grows often very inconspicuously covered in embankments. The color can be white or yellow and the season starts at the end of the summer and can be found until late in the year and also for the forest, it is of great importance as it goes with trees in symbiosis to exchange nutrients. It's important to mention that people should always be skeptical when searching and if a fungus is unknown, you should better leave it or get additional advice to be on the safe side!

This doesn’t look like a mushroom
I’m shocked
It looked like a flower to me😅

That's right! Like a coral or plant :)

Its looking very nice and very good to know about it.

Thanks for the kind words :)

It looks very exquisite and pleasing to the eyes, I wish it could be edible 😊

Thanks for your kind words, the edibility is often controversial but in fact, it ends up in some restaurants on the dinner plate as decoration. It’s probably especially popular in some areas of France.
