Hello dear community, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you had a day which has brought some interesting experiences into your life! In this article I would like to talk about nature and hope you are able to expand your knowledge.
You can see here pictures of quinces which are also known under the scientific name Cydonia oblonga and where exactly this fruit comes from is often discussed but it is assumed that it could come from Mesopotamia and was already cultivated thousands of years ago. Later it became more and more known among the Greeks and Romans who were very fascinated by the healing properties of the fruit and it did not take long until it became an increasingly important food which reached other countries through traders where it was often considered a sacred fruit and among the Greeks, it was also considered a symbol of love or fertility and was associated with the goddess of love Aphrodite. In ancient Greece, it was an important food that was cultivated by farmers and the botanical name derives from the city of Kydonia where it had a particularly important meaning and also during the Middle Ages, it was a widespread fruit which was less or more common depending on the region and one of the best-known rulers who contributed a part to the spread was the ruler Charlemagne from the Carolingian dynasty. Also in other regions different meanings have developed around quinces and was considered a divine fruit around which numerous different rituals have developed and in some countries it is considered an important bringer of luck. Nowadays it is mainly cultivated in Europe and Asia but also on other continents it is sometimes grown and has developed into a popular fruit which is very appreciated because of the ingredients and can be used in many ways and is also interesting from a medical point of view.
Thank you very much for stopping by and I hope you could learn something new about nature! I captured these pictures with my Camera Sony Alpha 6000 plus 55-210 mm lens.
I have never seen this result before, today I saw it through your post.
That’s motivating for me to hear, many people don’t know quinces, great that you could learn something new.
The fruit was thought of by the ancient people from different angles, but I understood its importance as the medicinal properties of the fruit were mentioned in the medical science. Very good useful fruit
Thanks for stopping by and the kind feedback :)
Very glad to know about it but when I saw this picture, I was just thinking how it tastes? I didn't know about it before. I didn't eat fruits too much, as I don't like to eat them but I am aware of their benefits. I think everyone should eat such beneficial things .
Happy to hear from you and that you were able to get to know a new fruit, many do not know quinces :) To eat raw quinces have a very strange taste and most would describe it as unedible… The taste depends on the maturity, first quinces are rather sour and if you leave them lying around they unfold more the flavor and become sweet. Typical is also the intense and unique smell which reminds of a mixture of different smells.
I don't know about it's healing properties ever before. Well it's beneficial and good. Thanks for sharing such an interesting things about it. Lovely clicks
Thanks for stopping by and the kind feedback @emmyrosum
It is always good to learn about the history of nature and especially where the fruits come from, although to tell the truth the quince is not very common to see here in my country, Venezuela.
I am glad to have learned something about your country and that you appreciate my contribution! Which fruits are particularly common in your region?
