Hey everyone, first of all I would like to welcome you all to my new contribution and hope you had a great start into the new week! Today I would like to talk about blacksmithing and look forward to learning new things about this diverse tradition.

You can see here some pictures of goldsmithing art which I have photographed in the last few weeks during visits and as you can see in all these works there is a high degree of detail and dexterity, patience and of course creativity are the most important qualities that a goldsmith needs. A goldsmith has specialised in working with noble metals such as gold and sometimes silver or others and to this day, this profession can be found worldwide, but the history goes back much further and is closely connected with the discovery of gold and already in ancient cultures such as Egypt, there were forges that processed gold. In ancient times, magnificent objects were made of gold which usually served as status objects such as cutlery, sculptures, mythological objects or other works of art that mostly only wealthy people could afford and even in the present, larger objects are forged out of gold, but it is usually about working precisely and making jewellery. This art was often passed on in the family, but there are many cultural differences here and it has been a dream of many to learn this art which was learned through years of practice and it's very diverse when it comes to the working methods and in addition to normal forging techniques, it is about working very precisely and finely.

A goldsmith works with many tools such as file, hammer, saw, tweezers, scissors, knives and more and other things are also used which are of great importance for the design and also heat is used a lot and it requires equipment for melting and soldering. Also the right equipment for protection is not to be neglected and which protective devices are used always depends on the type and size of the forge and it's important that everything is carefully planned so that there are no complications during the work. The techniques of the goldsmiths have changed over time and numerous methods have been developed to bring the gold into the right shape and typical methods for further processing are granulation, engraving, duling and many more and due to new technical revolutions, the work has also changed and more and more technologies are being used which make the work easier and can be worked even more precisely and a good example is laser.

There's no doubt that a lot of work goes into goldsmithing but I think the improved methods of refining would make things easier!

Thank you for sharing.

In any case, there are still goldsmiths who prefer to favour the traditional techniques and that is a good thing. I’m glad to see that you’re also interested in the topic :)
