Botanical Gardens in Dublin 🌳🍀🌱

in #photography7 years ago

I took a walk in the Botanical Gardens with my friend @condra🍃

At this time of the year, there aren't many flowers and the park looks a bit empty however I still find it beautiful with the bare trees and flowers inside the green houses that are there all year round. The gardens are always calm and we always enjoy to have a walk around with @condra to chat about random things and do some catching up.

We took some quick snaps of the place as we were mainly just enjoying our time there. I used my phone to take all of these images which I thought turned out quite nice!

A bit of history...

The National Botanic Gardens is located in Glasnevin in the north-west of Dublin city center in Ireland. The Irish name is "Garraithe Náisiúnta na Lus" and it was originally founded by the Dublin Society (now known as the Royal Dublin Society) in 1795. The gardens are 19.5 hectares in size and are situated between the Prospect Cemetery and the River Tolka.

The original purpose of the gardens was to promote a scientific approach to the study of agriculture which is also where the infection of the first potato famine in 1845-1847 was identified. It was in there that throughout the famine, research was undertaken to stop the infection. However it was then overtaken by the pursuit of botanical knowledge.

This was the beginning of the arrival of plants from around the world with an increasing amount of plants coming from the tropical areas.

The gardens have some glasshouses...

Such as the Palm House and the Curvilinear Range. There are a few other small ones situated around the park which contain different types of plants, trees and flowers.

Once you enter these glasshouses, it feels like you are in a different world. Different scents surround you and something constantly will poke you as you walk past these beautiful creations of nature.

Surprises can be inside...

Many things can be found inside the glasshouses throughout the year. During the beginning of autumn we came across a display of autumn-associated items such as apples in a basket, cinnamon, moss and other things. This time when we visited we came across a display of Christmas associated items such as lemons with cloves, pieces of oranges, bottles of wine, coffees and chocolates in jars.

A lot of random things however somehow it all makes sense...

However beauty can also be found outside!

The gardens are relatively big and there are many small roads you can walk on. We tend to just walk on the grass with @condra as we look for interesting places to take photos. A simple branch, with a bit of light can look stunning and even the smallest of flowers can be a great model for our cameras! (In my case, phone ) .

We took some modelling photos as well of course!

I asked @condra to take some pics for me on my phone however he also snapped some interesting ones on his camera as well. We talked about an upcoming shoot that we are gonna do which I am really excited about so I had to practice and get used to posing in front of a camera again.

There is an actual garden section with farming produce

At this time of the year, this section of the garden is probably the most that looks dull as not many fruits and vegetables grow. We decided to check it out anyway as its a secluded area and can be very peaceful.

During the summer, you can find vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, lettuce and others as well as fruits like apples. In autumn you can find pumpkins which are my favorites! There are a few small green houses in this section as well which always reminds me of something from a Harry Potter movie.

A small fountain can be found in the middle and as I was fond of the reflections in the water, I asked @condra to throw in some stones in order for me to get a nice picture. I also took some photos of a kale looking like plant which had bright colours.

In general you can find a lot of photographers in the gardens

There are many people walking around with cameras and security guards keeping an eye on them. The park is very strict on commercial photography and only allows hobbyist. Fashion shoots are generally forbidden unless you receive a licence however with a small camera and a casual looking model, you can get away with it.

I have seen many photographers working with models in the gardens and at times you can also glimpse weddings shoots which are generally welcomed. I personally haven't tried having a shoot there in fear of being kicked out!

That's it for the post! ✨

I hope you guys enjoyed it and learnt something new. The gardens are definitely worth a visit if anyone is ever travelling to Dublin. It has always been mine and @condra's favorite place to meet as its peaceful and fills you up with positive energy. You can glance at some squirrels running around or hedgehogs hiding in bushes and after a long day, have a cup of tea or a nice hot meal in the cafe right beside the entrance. Anyone can come here either by car or a bus as the stop and the parking is right beside the gardens!

Love life.

Love, Eriluks 💖

Amazing tour! I loved it! The light was beautiful, you looked lovely and man! You can use a smartphone! Brava! I love Botanical Gardens, too! I used to take the kids to the one in the Bronx, which had a Christmas train display every year that road around to miniature famous buildings of NYC, like the Empire State Building made of twigs and other things from nature. It was WOW! Super post!

Thank you so much @ilanaakoundi!! I'm lucky enough to have an amazing camera on my phone, its Samsung Galaxy S7 and boy it takes great shots! Even has a pro mode with macro settings which I mainly used to take these. Oh wow thats amazing!
