The grayscale world-2

in #photography5 years ago

I continue to acquaint you with my archive and discuss on the topic of black and white photography.

I promised to show photos taken immediately in black and white due to the settings in the camera. In any SLR camera, you can turn on the black-and-white shooting mode and even adjust brightness, contrast, sharpness, and color filter for certain tasks (as in film photography).

I initially perceived a black and white photography verbatim: the picture should have a lot of black and white colors. Often I see gray-gray photos on the Internet and do not quite understand the purpose. That softness only for portraiture.

Since I need a hard contrast in the photo, then in the camera settings I twist it to the maximum. Still gives a strong contrast orange and red color filters.

But the filters must be used as intended. Blue - darkens green vegetation, but brightens the sky. Red - on the contrary, makes the blue sky almost black, and the greens are lighter.

The advantage of this method of creating black and white photographs is the speed of obtaining a finished picture.

The downside will be the fact that if you shoot only in jpeg format, then a color duplicate will be impossible to get.

The ideal solution is shooting in RAW or RAW + JPEG: you will always have a color source from which you can get a decent black and white image when converting. And if this is not enough, then there are many plugins (for example, Silver Efex Pro) that do an excellent job of creating images in grayscale.

Shooting immediately in bw mode on the camera allows you to quickly learn the intricacies of black and white photography and is comparable to bw film in work. All the same algorithms for developing and printing with color filters are in digital photography.

All photos were taken in 2010. Even then, I looked at the graphics of vegetation, but did not even suspect how far I would go.
