Garrapata State Park in California is an amazing coastal wonderland just north of Big Sur and south of Carmel. The coastal mountain range comes right up to the sea at this park and it even has a creek valley lined with redwoods. The coastline itself is filled with surprises from tide pools to sea stacks to sea caves. This is also a very good stretch of highway one for turnout camping.
