Hello, Hive.
It snowed over the weekend and more snow is being predicted for the upcomming one. Many people dislike snow; even many Minnesotans. I enjoy it, though. It's even better when you can work from home and shoveling the driveway can wait.
Saturday evening and Sunday morning, I went out to see what there was to see. Here are a few of the results.
Post-Sunset Field
Snow is particularly beautiful when it's fresh. It blankets the countryside, smoothing out the bumps and obscuring the dirt and grime. Fresh snow always reminds me of a fresh start; something I could use about now.
The God of the Bison
The central attraction for these bison seems to be a strange-looking bale of hay. I didn't know that the park fed the bison, as they do have sufficient range for year-round grazing. It was snowing, though, and maybe they were just being nice. This one is from Sunday morning.
Gravel Road
After grabbing a coffee to go, I went down a gravel road where I knew I'd be alone to watch the snow. It was peaceful. I could have stayed all day, if not for worrying that the snow would accumulate and make the hill unclimbable.
Sunday Evening - After the Storm
It has been a difficult week, mostly due to work. Things have not been going well and I ended up working twelve hours yesterday. Combine that with being alone 100% of the time and Valentine's Day advertising already being shoved in my face and it makes for a very depressing time of year.
For now, I'll just enjoyu the snow and try to ignore everything else. There's a bottle of Spanish (of course!) wine waiting in the cupboard.
Thank you for taking a look! If you enjoy my work, please click the upvote button. Comments are also greatly appreciated.
Nice photos! I really like the one where all the bison are eating.
I'm sorry things are not going well for you, hang in there. The valentines day stuff will be all over in a few weeks. How about you plan something fun for yourself on that day? Like a photography trip or something, might help cheer you up.
Thanks. That was the first time I've seen them being fed like that.
This will be my 40th Valentine's Day spent alone. The only good thing about it is that, with Covid, I don't have to be in the office and see everyone get flowers or cards from their significant others. I wanted to get a lens as a selfie v-day gift, but it's back-ordered.
Interesting, I never encountered it either, they just eat the hay that grows in the field here.
I suppose that will help not having to see it in the office. Too bad it's back ordered but that's great v-day gift! You will still have it's arrival to look forward to. How long do you have to wait?
Gorgeous scenes! We got a fresh 7 inches yesterday. My snowplow guy got me cleared out quite promptly, but many are still working at getting it all shoveled out.
Many of us spend Valentines Day alone.
Thanks! My sister got hit with record snow in Omaha over the last couple of days. Southern MN could use some more, though. The snowshoes haven't gotten much use, yet.
A friend who lives up in UP on the shores of Lake Superior called and we have much more snow in Southern Wisconsin than they do. He has a dog sled team and is wishing for more there, too.
It is a strange year. Usually, the lake effect snow is pretty heavy. Where is he at? I have family in Ironwood.
Munising. During the summer he outfits and guides kayak trips to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We met when he bought a kayak from me in the late 80s and have met up to do a lot of Lake Superior kayaking together over the years. He takes out so many novice kayakers during the summer that he enjoyed getting away and paddling with someone that could keep up with him and didn't need babysitting. We had lots of great adventures!
Great photos!
