Did you ever wondered why most of the houses are leaning in Amsterdam?
The first 11 meters of the soil is not solid. That is why Amsterdam is build on poles that go into solid ground which starts after 11 meters deep. The head of the poles are then used to lay the foundation of the houses. Without the poles the houses wouldn't stand. They build like this already since the 15th century. Nowadays, not much changed. Just the poles are not from wood anymore and they hit the poles deeper in the ground for more solidity.
Obviously we can see from the leaning houses that it still sinks which gives the centre of Amsterdam it's unique view. The leaning houses belong to Amsterdam and I do like it. What do you think?

When they lean forward, its because of the hook attached to the top of the house, its build this way for moving stuff, therefore you wont damage the building.
And back in the days houses got Taxed on how wide they were that why you see so many narrow houses.

Yes, true!! There are three other theories about why they lean forward but what you say is nost likely to my mind.
