Hey my dear Friends.... Yes, this is the beautiful Cashew Fruit. The color itself is so.... tempting!!
And.... Fenny-Fruit is the name given by me, your dear friend @geetharao!! ;)..., because it can be used to make a beer called fenny!!...
In the southern parts of our country, especially in the western and the coastal regions, mainly in our state we can find lots of these Cashew trees and also Cashew farms everywhere. In fact Mangalore is also famous for Cashew Industry, and exports a major quantity of Cashew Nut. Even though it grows here, the price here is around 1200 to 1500 Indian Rupees (for a good quality nuts)per kilogram!! So- I can rightly call it Golden Nut no?? :)
This fruit is sweet and juicy and generally liked by children. Though it has a slightly weird flavor and even a single drop makes a permanent stain mark on clothes!. I still remember my childhood days, eating this fruit, and having stained my good clothes and thereafter getting a good scolding from my mom... ;)
You all might have heard about Goa and it's beautiful beaches! Our Goa is also famous for Cashew - fruit beer called 'Fenny' specially prepared from this fruit, and this Fenny is available only there in Goa...
So here are some pictures captured using my husband's smartphone Samsung....
These tender Cashew nuts, after removing the nutshell and soaking in hot water for some time, to get rid of the weird acidic oil, can be used to make a special dish - Cashew Nut Upma, a very very tasty dish, generally a main menu in the weddings here!!
And finally about this Golden Nut. I think I can write a separate blog about this beautiful, tasty and nutritious nut!! Though the nut is tasty and full of nutrients, removing the shell is a difficult process. There are so many Cashew factories in and around Mangalore and a good number of people make their living by working in these places. However it is better to wear a glove as the oil present in the nut shell is very acidic and burning for the skin. But it is very good wood preservator, which can keep the termites away and is also used in the making of Touchwood and other wood related paints... :)
So these are some pictures of the beautiful Cashew tree with fruits.
These are the tasty Cashew Nuts! Will come soon with another post, about the uses and the dishes we can make with this Nut...
Have a Great day, Enjoy your weekend with your family... With much love, @geetharao...
I didn't know your place has got so many nuts (pun not intended)!
The only drink from cashew nuts that I'm used to is cashew milk. And I love the tea, coffee, curd and cream made from it. I never had an opportunity to taste fenny so far.
Now I know Mangalore too grows a lot of "fenny-nuts", I wonder, why do I need to go to Goa to get that fenny? Why can't I get it at Mangalore when so many "fenny-nuts" are being grown there?
But the Upma made from the tender Cashew nuts just tastes so good and mouth watering!!
And about that Fenny... I have not seen any brevery making fenny locally... May be because the nut is more valuable, they are neglecting the fruit and going only behind this nutty business... I think so...Hi @xyzashu... I too have not tasted that fenny or even other such drinks so far... :) As I am a bit traditional.... Not having any liking for the parties etc like today's generation!! :) :)
Very beautiful photography of very beneficial fruit looking nice color this fruit is very attractive and how will be taste thanks @geetharao for this lovely post keep it up.
