The 2 tallest buildings in the world in one year…Kinda cool to see

in #photography7 years ago

This past year I had the opportunity to travel to both Dubai and Shanghai and get to not only see but experience the top 2 tallest buildings in the world but also seeing the 10th and 24th on the list from below and above.

So we will start Number 24 on the list it is the Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai China. 1380 ft (421m) high, with 88 floors built in 1999. At the time it was opened it was the 3rd tallest building on the list right behind both Petronas towers in Kuala Lumpur. Here it is on the left next to the Shanghai Tower: (looks like I don’t have a picture of it by itself)

Next up is the Shanghai World Financial Center sitting at number 10 in the list. 1614 ft (492m) high, with 101 floors built in 2008. At the time it was built it was number 2 on the list only slightly behind the Taipei 101. Both having 101 floors, with the Taipei 101 being 53ft (16m) higher. It is the middle building below with the Shanghai Tower on the right and the Jin Mao Tower on the left:

While from this angle the Jin Mao Tower does look bigger than the Shanghai World Financial Center. Take a look at this next shot which was taken from the top of the Shanghai Tower looking down on both buildings:

Here is another shot of the Shanghai World Financial Center from the top of the Shanghai Tower:

Now on to the Shanghai Tower, which currently #2 on the list of tallest buildings. Standing 2073 ft (632m) high with 128 floors built in 2015. The interesting part on this trip was we were able to go to the top and experience the elevator ride which is one of the worlds fastest at a top speed of nearly 46 miles per hour. And yes my ears popped multiple times. Here are a few pictures from the ground and then looking down:

One last pic of the three in Shanghai from the ground:

Finally the tallest building in the world, Burj Khalifa. Standing at 2717ft (828m) with 163 floors built in 2010. FYI its really hard to take a good picture of a building this big. (and No the top of the building is not leaning, just a bad shot :()

And I needed to include a picture of the fountains at the base (too bad I didn’t get to see them in action):

Completely unrelated, IN the mall next to Burj Kahalifa, some activities to cool you off (and yes those are real divers swimming in the tank):

I hope you enjoyed my trip as much as I did. I believe I got all the statistics correct but I got something wrong please let know.

Looking forward to your comments.

Wow those are very tall!!! I hope I can got to them some day!

love the swirled illusion of the first one. but both seem unnecessarily tall

It does actually have a swirl and I believe it’s done that way to help with the structures integrity.

I agree with you, the views are impressive! I was fortunate to enjoy a cocktail at Cloud 9 in the Jin Mao Tower.

Incredible architecture, but is it just an ego competition at this point?

I believe so and after being in Dubai... I would say confirmed!!!
