in #photography4 years ago (edited)

When it comes to texture photography, there are a tremendous amount of photographers playing in the game. When you are use to it you can even recognize who is doing what through the themes and different materials that they capture.

Just browsing instagram with hashtags like mytexturefix or textureart will give you a good start in the scene.
I of course enjoy doing texture work with photography.
They actually develop your critical thinking in what you see.

Some are very obvious parts of decaying, on the other hand others are more abstract in their visuals not knowing what it is exactly.
To me i intend to produce the latter, my pictures reveals as little as possible of what it is, letting more an intuitive process taking place to actually use your imagination.

I hardly use organic living things for my textures. Wood, stone, marble or organic materials don't really motivates me even though it might happen in very specific circumstances . I like to evolve in a urban environment where, steel concrete, chemicals, rubber and other synthetic materials can be found.

It's a hunt. You don't get great textures just by taking anything, thats where your instinctive eye needs to work. I roam often different areas like abandonned places and cities. And like a hunter you learn to sharpen your tool and that gives you the ability to dig some very interesting visuals.

Editing wise, as usual i dont use photoshop or filters. I manually work with the contrast and shadows. I often see people using saturation in a very abusive way, to me saturation is used in specific situation and often used to negative up to make it monochrome.

Throughout my photographs i apply my intuition to the atmosphere and colors. This is following my genuine perspective of light and shadow control that reflects my inner self. Some people i know in the scene would see this work as a reflection of our self, a selfie in its kind, if that make sense.

In the field of texture i divide them in anthropocentric energy terms. Passive and active textures. I will write an article about what is a passive or an active texture later on hive, right now just enjoy h0ll0wstick texture-porn and let me know what you think in the comments below,
