If you've been reading my stuff you'll know that I've been to the Ballarat International Foto Biennale (BOFB) of late. One of the many things I love about this is the newish concept of the 'Outdoor exhibitions' this are exhibitions which are pasted up of walls around Ballarat.
Ballarat like many of the older towns of Australia (Ballarat was the home of the Gold Rush in the 1860's so a lot of it is about 150 years old) has a lot of alley ways and red brick sides of buildings so they suit themselves to having some amazing photography on them so let's look at some....
This Alex Meagher's Unfamiliar wilds - I love how this interplays with the environment, the use of the blocked in windows is very clever.
on the right is Mariken Wessels Model Stop Motion which is a very interesting piece that I wish there was a lot more off, there is something really quite beautiful in this work - but I've always be partial to underwater shots of models.
This is perhaps a little more common in the staging - but still so, so striking, it's Aida Muluneh's work called 'The world is 9'
This photo is not one I took (I have no idea why I wouldn't have snapped a shot) but I did love this collection from Mitchell Moreno called Body Copy - it is so striking and so unexpected down a alleyway in the middle of a country town.
