Dance is one of the most powerful tool for self-expression,
whatever your age or ability or gender.
It’s mood-boosting, bonding, raises body awareness and healthy and lends you poise and presence.
And this is not only a nice sentence but there are scientific studies which prove this.
In the year 2000 the Health Education Authority examined the link between participation in the arts and health. The question was if a person is engaging itself in arts-based activities if it improved participants’ sense of wellbeing and self-esteem.
The result was seem compelling and conclusive:
Across data of ninety projects** 91%** of persons reported a development in people’s self-esteem and 82% reported increased confidence. From these data it would seem that participation in community arts-based projects (including dance activities) has a positive impact on people’s self-esteem and confidence.
Now some other scientific studies do show less clear effect, but one study has shown that dance helps in particular people to raise their self esteem if they started with very low esteem and body awarnes
