Today, @kariofthenorth , my mother and myself went on a little roadtrip to a place called Andoya. There’s some villages, an air force base, space center (believe it or not) and STUNNING nature. Huge, flat areas with high peaks popping out from nowhere. We were served “lye fish” which I’ll tell you all about.
We were a little delayed by this guy who decided to flirt with disaster just when we were passing by:
Moose vs car is really bad for business. I’ve seen to many incidents and there are no winners.
@kariofthenorth in sunset, preaching to her ...following?
How to make lye fish!
-You need to get top shelf white fish. We use arctic cod. Hang it out like in the picture when it’s below freezing. Leave it for SEVEN months. When summer comes around it will have dried up so that birds and insects will leave it alone.
-Rehydrate in water for a couple of days.
-leave it in a solution of water and lye/sodium hydroxide/caustic soda .......!!! For 2-3 days.
-Put it back in water ( to reduce the amount of poisonous caustic soda)
-steam and serve with butter, potatoes and whatever the local tradition might dictate...
Yes! I agree! Stunning photos. What camera do you use?
Thanks! As a hobby photographer that has spent more than he should on camera equipment, I’m embarrassed to say that I just used my Samsung S7 phone... there is nothing like shooting with a full frame DSLR, however, the easiness of getting the photos from a phone to a different medium just makes it sooo tempting just shooting with a phone. Especially considering the quality the phone produces?
These imagets are all shot with a very low sun, and that is what’s creating 99,9 percent of the magic.
I can totally understand because all my photos are shot with an iPhone. Excellent photos.
Bildet av Karri. Priceless!
Umm, yeah. How about reducing completely all of the poisonous caustic soda! lol
The cod looks great, though. Probably my favorite fish. In fact, I read a fantsastic book about cod entitled Cod, by Mark Kurlasky. It's basically a history of the Cod fishing industry from the dawn of time... Far more interesting that the title might suggest.
Great shot of @kariofthenorth, by the way!
Haha, I get your point, but we can’t mess with traditions. Norway is built upon fishing. Even though the oil changed it all in the seventies, it’s still one of our major exports.
@kariofthenorth rarely misses an photo op!
Oh wow, your photographs are stunning! May I know what you used to take them?
Thank you also for sharing your road trip experience! I'm pretty sure you and your mom had a wonderful time! I also hope to visit Norway one day, I'm sure there is also a lot to discover there!
Thank you, that’s very kind! I just used a Samsung s7 phone! ( but don’t tell anyone)..
Yes, come visit! I’ll show you the northern lights!
Awesome! The smartphones just keep getting better and better at taking pictures! I should definitely try exploring the features of my own iPhone as well.
Woah, you've seen them? It's my dream to see them!
I'd go for some bacon with that dish. Or eggs in butter!
Nice photos and story!
Definitely! That’s what I would’ve served it with as well. Thanks for your comment!
