I first saw this building while on a boat, during the one and half hour tour of the 1000 Islands starting from the Crawford Wharf in Kingston. Later on during that day, we had a little walk along the waterfront, and I saw it again from much closer.
I thought it was very nice and that it must have had some history related to piracy or something. I promised myself to do some Googling once back home to see what it is about.
Turns out that I was both right and wrong. First of all, it has nothing to do with sword-waving and Arrrr sounding pirates. But it is related to piracy, that is, online piracy, as it belongs in fact to a company offering secure data center storage. I have no idea whether the data center is indeed inside this place, but servers running within walls surrounded by cold water is not bad idea in fact. It would certainly be a way to cut on electricity costs.
So, yes, this building hosts a firm called Canadian Cloud Backup (http://canadiancloudbackup.com/), there does not seem to be anything historic about it. I was a bit disappointed 😅
Regardless, you will see this building along your stroll on the 8 kilometer long Waterfront Pathway, which borders Lake Ontario as the name suggests, and has nice sightseeing. And this pathway is part of the 900 kilometer Waterfront Trust Trail that goes from Niagara Falls to Quebec! That's very impressive, I just had no idea something like that existed. That might be something interesting to do on bike!
very nice picture :D
Thank you!
nice shot, I would say it's the dream place to live, I would never imagine this building has hosting company inside
Yes indeed, it looked like a nice place to live. Sipping a coffee in the morning with the view on the lake must be something!
