Shivpuri Wildlife Reserve is the most nearest to Kathmandu. Covering a total of 61 sq. mi, it’s one of the most frequent place for hiking for youngsters in Kathmandu. As you keep ascending the hill, the thickness of the reserve thickens, while spectacular Kathmandu is entirely visible from the midway.
Four of us- me and my friends decided to hike Shivpuri few weeks back. As my house is an adjacent to Shivpuri- in Budhanilakantha, we gathered in my house.
We set off at around 8 in the morning. We had lunch to last us for few hours.
At around 9:30 or so, after climbing uphill for about an hour and more, we decided to take few pictures nearby the Army battalion camp, as the scenic beauty looked magnificent. But, we were obstructed and ordered not to click any pictures. So, we began climbing further.
We took a stop and decided to rest for few minutes after 4 hours of continuous walking, and ate packed ready-to-eat noodles.
We set forth again.
At around 4 pm, we reached Nangi Gumba (Monastary). There was a puja (a prayer ritual) going on. We sat there for almost 45 minutes. By then, the puja got over and we were offered with Prashadi (a religious offering consumed by worshippers after worship)
At 5, we began descending. Climbing uphill seems much easier than coming down. It was starting to get dark, as we keep moving. We had to find a short cut way down home. But, none among us knew any other route than the one that exist. By our luck, we happened to meet farmers on the way, so we asked them for the short cut route. They showed us the way, which looked more scary and straight down. If we slipped, we’d roll down like a stone.
After 2 hours of walking, and running downhill, we saw a house quite near. We reached near the house and sat for a while again.
It took us one more hour to reach the city from there. As we reached the city, we got in a restaurant as we were hungry. Because we were so relieved that we are finally back home now, we decided to take a beer of can each.
9 PM, we reached my house, in Budhanilakantha.
30 Km, we hiked.
