Before you clicked on this post, were you able to guess what the image was from the thumbnail? Pictured here is a mountain of Chinese vegetables called "Gai lan" which is also sometimes referred to as Chinese broccoli because it has a similar taste and is also from the brassica family. I named this photo, "Patterns in Chinatown" because of the dots the stems created from how the gai lan was stacked. Also a less literally inspiration for the name is because my boyfriend and I have a routine of shopping together in Chinatown for our vegetables after I'm finished work in the area nearby. My family is Chinese so I grew up eating all sorts of Chinese vegetables from the various Chinese grocers in Toronto. Gai lan in particular is really easy to prepare. You can simply blanch it and serve it drizzled with some oyster sauce or quickly stir fry it with some minced garlic and a bit of stock to help it wilt.
This is my entry for @daveks black & white photo contest. This week the theme is food and you can see my other two entries here and here. I tried to pick three very different photos to show the different ways I interpreted the theme. Which one do you like best?
This photo was taken on an iPhone 4S. (Yes, I know, it's ancient. Haha! I'm still using it. )
