Unfortunately I never got closer to the castle Hochosterwitz this year than can be seen in these photos.

Näher bin ich heuer leider nie an die Burg Hochosterwitz herangekommen.

Actually, I wanted to visit the castle again this year after quite a while with my family, but somehow we did not make it. Maybe there will be a visit next year.

Eigentlich wollte ich die Burg heuer wieder einmal mit meiner Familie besuchen, aber irgendwie haben wir es leider nicht geschafft. Vielleicht geht sich nächstes Jahr ein Besuch aus.

The castle Hochosterwitz was built on a 150 meter high limestone rock. From the castle itself you have a beautiful view in all directions. The castle was first documented in a deed of donation from the year 860.

Die Burg Hochosterwitz steht auf einem 150 Meter hohen Kalksteinfelsen. Von der Burg selbst hat man eine wunderschöne Aussicht in alle Himmelsrichtungen. Erstmals urkundlich erwähnt wurde die Burg in einer Schenkungsurkunde aus dem Jahre 860.

From one of the parking spaces you can either walk through the 14 gates to the castle, or ride on the in 2017 newly built lift, which makes the 124 meter in 65 seconds. I have never ridden the lift, but I can recommend the interesting walk through the gates. Of course, the lift trip costs separately. At the castle you can visit, among other things, an armory, the castle church, a collection of weapons and a picture collection from the Renaissance period. In the castle restaurant you can enjoy the local Carinthian cuisine. The current opening times and entrance fees are available on the official website of the castle (link below the article).

Von einem der Parkplätze kann man entweder zu Fuß durch die insgesamt 14 Tore zur Burg marschieren, oder mit dem 2017 neu errichteten Lift fahren, welcher die 124 Meter Steighöhe in 65 Sekunden überwindet. Mit dem Lift bin ich noch nie gefahren, aber ich kann den interessanten Spaziergang durch die Tore empfehlen. Die Liftfahrt kostet natürlich separat. Auf der Burg kann man unter anderem auch eine Rüstkammer, die Burgkirche, eine Waffensammlung und eine Bildersammlung aus der Renaissancezeit besichtigen. Im Burgrestaurant kann man die heimische Kärntner Küche genießen. Die aktuellen Öffnungszeiten und Eintrittspreise gibt es auf der offiziellen Webseite der Burg (Link nach dem Beitrag).

Sehr interessanter Beitrag und eine tolle Reiseempfehlung. Ich muss gestehen, dass ich bisher noch keine Bilder dieser Burg gesehen habe. Auf jeden Fall handelt es sich um ein überaus tolles Bauwerk mit einer langen Geschichte. Den Ausblick von dort oben kann ich mir gut vorstellen. Aber du wirst uns sicher noch Bilder von dort oben zeigen.

Da oben hast du einen coolen Ausblick über die ganze Gegend und der Marsch durch die 14 Tore hinauf ist auch recht interessant. Vielleicht geht sich ja nächstes Jahr wieder mal ein Besuch aus - es sind ja nur wenige Minuten mit dem Auto, aber die Familie muss halt auch mitspielen, denn alleine macht so ein Ausflug keinen Spaß.

It is a beautiful castle, just a few minutes by car from where I live. I bet, you would walk - it is a nice walk and you have a great view all the way up.

Yes, the castle is close, but I haven't been there more than just 2 or 3 times, I think.

I would be surprised if anyone uses it more than us, perhaps we over do it?

ITs funny often when something is close its all to easy to put off visiting it, same with some of the tourist spots in NYC I only ever went to them when we had visitors

Right, we live and work near a beautiful lake, where people pay to make holidays and go swimming. The last time I have been in that water is about 10 years ago, when the kids were much younger 😉

We have quite a few castles around, but I think this one is the most beautiful. I don't think, building such a castle would be affordable or possible nowadays.

Die Motive vor der Hautür sind anscheinend die schwierigsten - wir waren zwar nicht viel unterwegs heuer, aber die Gegend zu Hause haben wir komplett vernachlässigt 😭 Nächstes Jahr möchte ich mir die Burg aber wieder mal anschauen gehen.

Ich plante eigentlich auch schon seit Tag 1 hier auf Steemit einen Beitrag über Hochosterwitz zu schreiben und kam auch noch nie dazu...

Hab jetzt über den Sommer massenhaft tolle Bilder gemacht und bin viel herumgekommen (Kroatien, Spanien, Liechtenstein) - einzig an der Zeit zum schreiben happerts im Moment ziemlich... ich hoffe die nächsten Wochen komm ich mal dazu, was zu schreiben!

Ich wollte heuer auch so viel machen und habe Einiges geplant gehabt, aber immer ist irgendwas dazwischengekommen ... nächstes Jahr ist auch noch ein Jahr. Vielleicht komme ich dann zum Beispiel auch wieder mal in die Burg anstatt nur außen herum zu fahren.

Ich bin dann schon mal gespannt auf deine Beiträge und die Fotos.

Yes, it is one of the most beautiful castles I know. Hopefully I will be able to get up there and visit it once again. You are not allowed to photograph everything, but I am sure to make some nice photos of the inside.

Amazing castle! This looks like an eagle’s nest! Crazy people building and lugging all the heavy rocks up that mountain! No one can attack it!

Yes, you are right, and most castles have been built on rocks or hills like this one, but this castle belongs to the most beautiful castles I know. I hope, I will be able to visit it next year once again and make some photos from the inside.

I don't think, this castle can be bought. It was early in the morning, the opening hours begin later and I haven't been in the mood to walk alone up there ;)
