It happens often, that the more beautiful view is behind me when I photograph sunrises or sunsets. You just have to look around, especially when the scene you wanted to photograph isn't that good.

Yes thats what I do as well, its a mistake to just be focused oneway always good to look around

It’s funny you get weird looks sometimes when others are watching the sunrise and I turn to take a shot or shots in the other direction lol

Like a photo I have made on my last hike - before I left the waterfall a few people have already passed me and were photographing the huge waterfall. I have seen another nice image (in my eyes ;) and photographed a tree on the other side of the gorge, oposite of the waterfall. They were curious, what I was photographing there, but I don't think anybody has realized what I saw ;)

Thats a good example for sure of what we are talking about, I must admit i do smile when thinking about what the people looking at us strangely must be thinking when they cannot understand why we are pointing the camera away from what they think is the perfect photo and cant for the life of them work out what we are shooting
