Abandon Building Photography Art – Old Butcher Plant – Creepy Photo Set

The Story:

These photos are now almost a decade old and have never been posted online. During my undergraduate studies I purchased a new camera for a few school projects that I was working on. Once receiving it, I really wanted to go somewhere interesting to take photos.

I had recently heard someone in my hometown tell a story about the old butcher house. It was located on one of the country highways leaving town. Not knowing what he was talking about, I asked “what butcher house?”

He then went on to tell me about an old butcher plant out on the highway. He told me the place got in trouble for dumping blood and animal scraps in a pond out back on the property. Locals complained. Health inspector came in, and well…one thing after another and they were shut down.

I asked, “But the building, is it still there?”

“Sure is,” the old man said, “just off the road a bit. Covered in brush.”

It should be no surprise that once my I had my camera in hand, there was no way I was not going to investigate. Convincing three of my friends to go along with me, we drove by where he told me the old place stood.

Finally, we saw it. Covered in overgrown trees and weeds, the top of the old building sticking out the winter-bare tree limbs.

Convincing three of my friends to go along with me, we parked our truck a few hundred yards away and walked to the building.

We pushed past thickets and brush, climbed over crumbling concrete bricks and shattered wooden beams, finally making our way inside through a whole in the cinder block wall.

The interior was colder than outside. It was early winter. The air was bitter already. Inside, it was even cooler with little sunlight getting in.

We made our way through the worker's locker room, many of which still had items left inside. Everything was as if all the workers dropped what they were doing in the middle of a shift and walked away. Coffee makers, cups, boots and jackets laid about.

Past the showers and changing room, we came across the front workers entrance. Covered outside by trees, we never saw it until we were inside the building.

Dim light snuck past the branches back-lighting the doors that head outside.

Finally, we made our way to the main slaughterhouse floor.

Instantly we felt the atmosphere change. Heaviness hung on all of us, and we felt grief stricken. Above us we could see a system of pullies and belts running along the ceiling where animals would be hung, slaughtered, and moved from room to room inside the building.

Rusty saws, hooks, and a variety of other old tools littered the main room. Several of the saws were still plugged in. On the ground, we found a half-buried animal skull. Likely a local animal who ironically fell to its demise inside an abandon slaughterhouse floor.

We continued to slowly move through the structure, eventually making it to the back door. It seemed we were heading towards the infamous back lot of the property, finally exiting through a entrance behind the building.

From here we could see the side of the operation hid from the road. Cattle and other animals were brought through the back after being moved through holding pens. From there, it was directly to the slaughter floor.

Beyond the pens, past some of bare trees, we could see what looked like a half-dried pond. Once we behind the building, we saw the whole scene unfold. The pens, the slaughter floor, the pond out back where they disposed of who knows what.

It was all becoming too much. The heavy atmosphere, the coldness, the wrong-doings, all the killing that took place. All of it could be felt.

The evil still hung from the ceiling.

We couldn’t stand it anymore.

None of us could stomach walking back inside, so we worked our way around the outside of the building until were back on the main road.

A short brisk walk away and we were inside the warm trucking pulling away.

Never to return.

such a creepy environment bro.. this would send shivers down my spine if i were in that place. haha

It certainly did to us. Felt very haunted and surreal.

I would love to have a paranormal team investigate there. Can animals haunt a place? Interesting thought. Lol.

I SO WOULD DO THIS, they say some of the worst "earth" is where the most blood is so slaughterhouses are notoriously haunted

Creepy stuff. Place was so dark and eerie. You could feel all the animal killing in the air. Unsettling for sure.
