Japan Photo Blog, Vol. 76 - A Very Snowy Niigata City, Japan.

fuyu. “winter.”

It started snowing today after lunch. I cleaned the snow off of my car before heading back to work for the afternoon. When I re-emerged, I found my car covered again, in a foot of snow.

The adults in the city talk about what a pain the weather is, but the kids are filled with excitement and wonder. As I left the school today, the mothers hustled and bustled to get to their cars, shouting at the kids to hurry up. The kids were too busy poking trees, running their hands across fences, and tasting the new-fallen cold powdery stuff to notice.

I admit it’s a pain in the ass sometimes for us “adults,” but tonight I simply found myself filled with excitement and wonder, much welcome in this often dreary season here in Niigata City.

I hope you’ll enjoy the photos.

Wow, snow in Japan Nigata city. Great share, yes childhood means fun and laughter and excitement, they can enjoy in every season. Thanks for sharing such a beautiful post, in the north east part of India too we feel very cold now a days. Thanks for sharing friend, have a great day friend happy steeming.

Thank you for sharing these magnificent photos. I really love and enjoy the snow. Everything seems so clean and peaceful when it's covered with it. I don't get any snow in my city, so I appreciate this post with your stunning photos. Hope you're having good day.

Thanks a lot, @lensational. You too!

Haha...That's Great @kafkanarchy84! We forget, once we get to be "Big People", how amazing a new snow is, and how fun it is to just go outside and play! Awesome photos!

Niigata snow is tremendously piled up!
You may go camping in the snow in Niigata in February!
I am looking forward to it!😃

That sounds fun. Are you going to do some winter camping in Niigata?

You have to embrace your inner child when it snows.
Yes it can be a pain in the arse but it is so much fun, funny how a snowy scene always looks magical.
Enjoy it while you can my friend before long it'll be dirty slush in the gutters.
Build a snowman, drill your neighbours in the face with a snowball, create snow angels and have fun.

Looking good! Cold here in Nagano but not much snow so far. Although I have yet to venture up to my fields in the hills so there might be some more there. Anyway, it's funny what you said about children and adults: when I was getting up at 5 am to go to work just before Christmas I noticed how most adults (even here in Nagano) seemed really unprepared for the cold, feeling the need to leave their car engines running for ten minutes before getting into them to go to work, whilst just a few minutes later, joshikosei were walking to school in their miniskirts..! Sometimes I wonder what happens to people when they grow up! Does getting old and weak make you enjoy life less or does enjoying life less make you old and weak?!

That is the question. I'm inclined to go with the latter.

Can't wait to see ya.

really wonderful shots for the wonderful japan

@kafkanarchy84. I usually feel a change in mood during the first days of the snow as evidenced by the snow fights but it quickly turns to frustration because then you have to worry about a lot of things like shoveling the drive way, changing car tires, melting snow, tracking water into the house. Children enjoy it more no downside for them .

Children tend to be more adaptable because they are used to learn everything something new - especially in the first years :)

The most beautiful side effect of snow is, that everything looks a bit more inviting. This concerns especially cities.

Imagine the same pictures made during a rain shower :)

Thumbs up for another winter wonderland

I enjoyed your photos. They are amazing. I like the snow.

Interesting post, professional photography.

wow...beautiful nature,i like your post

Very beautiful, but i love japan more in the spring...the flowers:)

Thanks to the great photography for you to share such beautiful photos among us

Incredible photos! Greetings from Poland :)

Snowfalls are beautiful sight to behold but not very comfortable a phenomenon to experience. Great pictures of Niigata.

Very beautiful photos, I love snowy weather.

Snow makes everything so much prettier... I just wish it wasn't so cold lol. I lived in Chicago my whole life and moved to Florida because I couldn't handle the cold weather!

I like your post! Thanks for looking haha

would love to see more pictures. this is really nice

Great! Seems, that there's a lot of snow where you're in Japan. Here in Bulgaria our winters are usually very snowy, but this year there's a severe lack of this white fairy powder. Keep my fingers crossed to see some snow here too...
I like the way the snow looks on the photos. So pure and powdery! What about a snowman?

picture is very beautiful

Thanks for sharing. I haven't experienced snow yet, so this is great. Makes me want to be in the pictures.

Very nice post! I learned a new word today which is fuyu. “winter.”

Winter season helps people come together. People who throw themselves on the streets with their vacation purpose in the summer and who are scattered in different places return to their homes with the arrival of the winter season and spend more time in their homes. However, a stove that burns warmly, chestnuts on top of the sobas are some of the beauties of the winter season, though not many today.
@kafkanarchy84

Incredible photos. And if many things that for children are great for us, adults worry us; but you have to give them time to discover and enjoy things that for us are simple, like snow. I follow you

That is really beautiful.

wow thats some awesome snow photographs there , it looks stunning . Great post thanks for the Great Photographs .

This looks cool winter... here Estonia this year we not have a lot snow :(

Yes dear @kafkanarchy84 i got enjoy this post...

すごいね
I'm stuck at work so I'm not feeling the joy right now. Waiting for the streets to became clear to start my long journey back home.
At least I could use the time to write a post, haha.

Natsukashii. Yukiguni o omoidashite.

This makes me recall the winters I spent in Sapporo. Tons of snow would pour down on the city, making everything brighter, quieter, and slower. It made the bitterly cold days so much more tolerable. (Of course, a bit of hot sake always helped, too.)

I haven't seen snow in years. Seeing your photos reminds me of just how pleasant a winter wonderland can be.

As a person born and raised in Texas it amazes me how the snow reflects the light at night and makes it appear so bright out!

We have over 20" here in Laporte over the weekend. Don't know if we got 12" in on day, but I feel your pain. Stay safe!

my friend from new york is in niigata and he will take bullet train to visit me tomorrow 😊 I forgot you live in niigata! its lovely there too❄️

And in Germany you can nearly go out without jacket these days. Can't even remember the last hard winter with long snow time. Maybe we should prepare for raising exotic fruits here.... ok its not so warm but somehow different than in childhood.

Man, snow is always so beautiful. We moved more south on the U.S. and haven't seen much snow.....in 4 years. 😑

wow! snow really presents us a fairy-tale)
winter isn't loved by many people because of great cold but it seems to me this snow white mitacle is just unrepeatable! no season has so vivid beauty to my mind
unfortunately I haven't seen it this year yet( I live in the southern part, and here snow comes not so often, so I will stare at your photos and feel frozen snowy air)

p.s. to clean the car from snow is the most awful winter activity))

btw we will have the Old New Year tomorrow in Russia, so my congratulations to you and your family!
Let the fairytale come into your life every day)

the card says 14 of January - the Old New Year (in English there're no such cards, you don't have such a holiday, do you?

thanks for the photos!
ahhh I havent seen snow in my life before (quite unlucky) hope to see some soooon
Will be following your posts! i hope to start a travel photo blog on steemit for my travels to Japan as well!

よろしくお願いします!

And just the other day, a train in Niigata was stranded for hours due to snow pileup. Imagine the amount of snow there is!
