藁
wara, “straw/rice straw.”
My wife, @mslight2016st, stopped by the Iwamuro onsen area here in Niigata today to hear her friend’s band play. I found my way outside as I wasn’t too interested in the music, and to my delight, discovered a bunch of cleverly fashioned doggos made of wara, or rice straw. Have a look!

Reminds me of Neverending Story!
Lovely weather today - did u manage an onsen too ?
OH wow, that's pretty impressive artwork there. The way they put the straw together, and I'm guessing they need to keep it holding together with more than just those bands, or is it that solid? I wonder if strong winds will make them fly off, they look so big and yet so light in weight.
so cool idea!
no monuments are needed!
and how do they feel under the rain?
unfortunately, your wife writes blog only in japanese;(
i wanted to be her follower:(
