The magic of night photography with film

Digital cameras vs. film

Digital cameras are popular but limited in the dark night. Film is magical and offers a wide range of tones that digital cameras can't match. Film also allows you to adjust shutter speed and focus to capture the finest details.
Choose from different types of film according to your needs and preferences. For example, Kodak Portra 800 is an excellent choice for photographing the dark night. It offers soft contrast and wide exposure latitude.

After much experimentation, I found that it is easy to achieve quality night photography with Kodak Portra 800. The wide exposure latitude and smooth contrast make it perfect for dark night photography. In addition, I can adjust the shutter speed and aperture to capture fine details and soft colour tones.

This is an image with a little touch of red. I also enhanced the red a bit more to give it a slightly cyberpunk feel. There will be a chance to present it in more detail in another release, but the feel is quite different from Cinesteel. Here are some pictures taken with Cinesteel in the same place.

If you look at the original uncorrected version, the difference is even greater.

it is impossible to take pictures in places without city lights. Depending on the direction of the lighting, you may or may not be able to take them.

If the shutter speed is reduced to 1/30 or less, the movement of buses or cars can be expressed as motion blur, as shown above. Fortunately, in the case of the Leica, there is no image stabilisation, but as there is no mirror, the above image can be obtained by minimising hand movement.

I'll feature this in another post, but in the case of the Portra 800, I tend to be a little uneasy about where the colour will bounce depending on the lighting. In terms of consistent colour, the Cinesteel 800T is much more stable. However, if only the colours are neutral and come out well, the night view of Seoul seen with a portrait feel is really great.

The Portra 400 sensitivity is also very expensive. The 800 sensitivity is hard to get and the price is much more perverse. But wouldn't it be nice to have fun like this once or twice a year?

Taking night photos with film is a magical and satisfying experience. Explore different types of film according to your needs and preferences, such as Kodak Portra 800. Remember: practice, experiment and have fun. Good luck!
