Whats that noise?

in #photography7 years ago

Have you been to Crete in August? There is an animal that can bring the biggest noise that I have experienced at least.

The Cicada

The male is equipped with a sound tool, which produces a more intense than melodic music. The body is located on the waist side of the breast's back and the main body of the chest and consists of a pair of cavities, each of which is covered by a large leather-like scales and contains a very complicated apparatus of three-frame retracted sleeves.

These cavities serve as resonance apparatus to amplify the sound, which is likely to be produced by muscular contractions, resulting in vibration of the mentioned membranes.

These sounds can go up to 900 Hz and 120 decibels.

I do not know if you can call that singing? Still, it was an experience.

Thanks for sharing this with us, @knackart. 120 dB is insanely loud for such a small, little creature.

Yes, it´s pretty surreal.

A very informative post, thanks for sharing!

Incredible stuff!

Nice thanks for sharing

Such a nice view and details! In my state they are not that common but it seems like it is the "sound of summer" in a lot of countries so you get to hear it in movies and such... I recognize it, is really loud hahaha. Thanks for sharing!

Haha, yes. "Sound of summer" I like that.

for interesting info. thanks..

i have seen this noisy animal in my childhood
we used to call it a ringer!so much noise
good shots indeed!

It shakes up with the sound of its body's senseless senses, and sounds like a sound. I have seen it in front of my eyes.

nice stuff, i always like reading your posts, their always educative, thank you

Thank you for those kind words :)

Amazing post.
This insect produces loud and contineous sound. Some may call it sound while others may call it noise coz its quite loud. But i would call it a high pitched song

Everyone experiences things differently. singing or screaming, I'm at least impressed.
