Good morning and Happy PRIDE from the Twin Cities! Chilly for most, I’m sure, but I was so pleased to walk outside to a 65º degree day. As a kid, all I did was play outside. I was in Boy Scouts for ten years and was always camping, fishing and hiking. Fast forward to present day and I’ve become an acclimated freelance coffee shop hermit. Anything over 80º makes me crabby.
Speaking of Minnesota and PRIDE, a local friend and ally of the LGBT community is featured here today. She is a blossoming burlesque entertainer and her name is Magnolia Lace. She came to me through the annual NOIR event I hold in Minneapolis, LA and NYC. Magnolia booked her session last fall for what would be five consecutive years of sold out NOIR sessions.
NOIR has taken on a life of it’s own since it began in 2013. The event is the only all inclusive session I offer that includes hair, make-up, location, photography, wardrobe and styling. I’ve been extremely fortunate to have incredible lingerie sponsors co-host NOIR including What Katie Did and Kiss Me Deadly. It’s become a massive undertaking demanding at least four months of my year.
NOIR I LA and NYC are always incredible affairs, but I have a special place in my heart for the Minneapolis dates as it’s my hometown and where the event began. The feeling of spending two months shooting production material to advertise the event and quality assurance of the website form scripts, it’s so amazing when bookings begin to come through our email. One of those bookings was Magnolia.
She was pleasant and conversational when we arrived. @vermillionfox introduced Magnolia to our beauty team. Sandy Xiong of Fearless Cosmetics and Nicole Crust of Revolting Locks have been with me since my start in Minneapolis. They were the same beauty team as the first NOIR and have always done an incredible job. Top shelf industry professionals.
Magnolia was extraordinary in front of the camera! She’s an experienced model, as is the case with most burlesque dancers. We still had the opportunity to capture photos unique to my style with available light and shadows. The Kiss Me Deadly lingerie complimented her figure so well and the dark esthetic of the NOIR set design gave this sweet Midwestern girl the presence of a dangerous, seductive woman. All photographed using 35mm and 50mm lens, the photos of Magnolia have the same timeless, Old Hollywood look NOIR has become known for.
NOIR is a very specific event that is intentionally themed around black and white, cinematic photography. As such that is the photos I release on all social media, but, I love Steemit and this is sort of like my art playground so here’s a look at the dark colors with Magnolia Lace. Enjoy.

Thanks for posting!
Yeah, she is and she's a sweetheart. What a pleasure to work with @tyrael1979! Thank you for reading!
Awesome photos once again @kommienezuspadt!
Thanks very much @shieha! You're support means a lot, especially from such a talented photographer.
I have been a fan of your photography for a while and I was pleasantly surprised when I found you on steemit! I used to do pinup modeling a couple of years ago (I wrote a post about it here https://steemit.com/life/@artedellavita/why-i-didn-t-make-a-good-model) , now I enjoy blogging and being behind the camera. Had to upvote and follow! Happy Saturday to you!
Really!? No way! Small world, @artedellavita! I love that you found your way here to Steemit. This place is incredible, isn't it? I just went down the line and upvoted a bunch of your stuff. Getting ready to read your modeling post now. Followed as well! Thanks for the kind words! Looking forward to your posts!
It definitely is a small world! I started following you via IG through Vintage Vandals post. Your photography is amazing and the mood... well where can I start.
I appreciate the follow and I look forward to your posts as well!
Enjoy your evening.
HAHA! So weird @klorb! :P
❤️
Thanks @pablito.
WOW!! @kommienezuspadt Your photos are breathtaking. Absolutely gorgeous!! Great work! I am impressed, and jealous of your talent!!
Thanks, man! I appreciate the kind words. There may be some talent in there as well but believe me, I was horrible for over a decade. @rayanboland!
Beautiful model and incredible photos, I like your photography works
Thanks very much @dezconocido!
very artistic photographs and a wonderful read. Thanks for sharing the story.
Really, really glad to hear people read the stories behind these shoots @enjoywithtroy. They're by far the most time consuming part but I like writing them.
I completely get that as I have done posts as well. Being in the music industry I appreciated her background in burlesque and LGBT. I have dabbled in both as a entertainer of music. Thanks for taking the time in the reply and I look forward to more posts of yours.
65º Lucky! That's like winter temps for us here is South Florida. I love the warm tones from the incandescent lights in your photographs. It's harder to get these kinds of tones now-a-days on location unless you bring your own lights as everywhere switches over to CFL an LEDs. Great shots as always!
Yeah, I agree. I've never used that kind of studio or artificial lighting so I just got good at working with shadows @steempowerpics. I do love the unpredictable feeling of low light, available light photography. Thanks for the kind words!
Interesting series.
Thanks @team101. I do my best to keep them interesting.
What should I say.... its amazing
Thanks again @juvyjabian! Glad you like it. Thanks for the comment, as always.
Great post! Keep it up :)
By the way, I'm following you now
Cheers
Thanks @brnofre! Appreciated. I'll check your blog out now.
Very lovely man!!
Thanks, @darkb4dawn. It was great seeing you last night and catching up!
Oh can't wait till your back in LA for NOIR! Great photos!
Yeah! We need to talk about hosting something together @mterrisphoto!
Oh YES!!
Wonderful work as always! I love the way you use available light, especially on the shots where there is a mix of colder light from outside and the warm light of a lamp, makes a really cool look :)
Thank you, my darling! That makes me so happy that you notice little things like that @eveuncovered! I've been mixing warm and cool lights for years. I was told in college never to do that, so I take pleasure in the fact that it's become part of my esthetic now.
Yeah I guess that would be considered "wrong" generally in photography but you always make it work wonderfully.
