It's about 40 km of the Mont Saint-Michel, in Bretagne. You can now go from paris to Saint-Malo in only 2, 5 hours thanks to the new train line.

Oh OK, so its on the other side. When I went travelling last year I was going to go island hopping around the channel islands, then get to France and travel through France until I met my friend in Nice, but I ended up flying straight to Nice from Gatwick in the end

Yes, it's on the other side... but it's really worth the detour! Just aside of Saint-Malo, you can visit the medieval city of Dinan, the Mont Saint-Michel, and the typical Bretagne, that have a very strong culture and historical legacy.
