Acapulco Bay: Cool Tall Ships Enter the Bay for the Holidays

in #photography7 years ago

These tall ships returned to the bay in a show of sorts and have been sitting around ever since for the most part. The pirate (I call them that, they aren't actually pirate ships, they just look like it from above) style ships were here last year around this time until the end of the year but we didn't have good cameras to capture them.

From my understanding they're just part of the Mexican military but that doesn't make them any less cool.

The three masted barque sailing ship is part of the Mexican navy and is manned by cadets. Every year it's here in Acapulco for the New Years celebration (being it's owned by the government it is essentially a pirate ship). It's named the Cuauhtémoc and is actually a relatively modern ship built in 1982 in Spain. It has a steel hull and a modern propulsion system to augment the sails.

I wanna be a pirate.
Are those pictures taken de tu casa?

Wonder if they are taking a rest or are part of some kind of illegal trade. Thanks for taking us to school on pirate ships.

A grand sailing vessel shows up during football season in Tampa, FL, and it used in celebrations for the 'Bucaneers' football team. I love being near the water, so fun and interesting ships are neat when you don't get to see them a lot!
