Adventures Around Acapulco: Central Market Artisan's Market

in #photography7 years ago

We went to the central market here in Acapulco today with some friends for a whole array of items, including bird food and chickens. While we couldn't get the bird food we needed we got a lot of other things, including new chickens that I'll take pictures of tomorrow.

These were taken at what is the one government funded artisans market in the city that happens to be more than halfway empty at any one time as far as shops are concerned, with the area around it seriously densely populated.

I loved the art they had on display at this particular stand.

The glass featured in the last few photos is soft glass art produced in the state of Puebla here in Mexico. I love them, but didn't want to pay his high prices.

Tiny bowls of soapstone fruit.

Intricately painted boxes.

A chess piece from a set John wanted, at the gringo price of 2000 pesos (meaning it could be talked way down).

Awesome carved ash tray.

We were actually looking for hammocks though. They picked out three and paid 2500 pesos for them despite the original too high quote of 6000 pesos to start. We even paid too much at the 2500.

Wooden mortar and pestle!

That's a ship made out of a horn.

One really large, really nice one.

We got 5 super docile ones that are now eating food on their mountain.

Oh great... I like the markets in central and south america. I don't know Acapulco, but I liked all the artcraft in Oaxaca and San Cristobal de Las Casas.
Have fun over there ;-)
