We posted about this bug a few months ago but we never updated everyone on the fact that we've purchased it. It's now legally our bug and the other day we finally moved it from the spot we first saw it to a spot closer to our house. It's not running currently for a few different reasons but we were able to move it down the street with the help of our handy neighbor.
We started by airing up the tires. At the same time our neighbor's daughter noticed what we were doing and seemed interested. No one had touched that bug since it'd been left as far as they were concerned.
So we just tried pushing the thing at first as its a lightweight car. It wouldn't budge as it's sat not moving for the entire wet season and everything rusted into place. Our neighbor noticed and came out, having clearly been practicing his english, to ask us what we were doing. We explained we bought the car and wanted to move it closer and he immediately understood, smiled and started helping. He too realized it didn't wanna budge and totally understood why.
He got a hammer and beat on the tires a little to help break the rusty bonds keeping them from moving. With some work we eventually got the thing to move a little but we decided it'd be best to use the truck and a chain to move it most of the way.
It was a hell of an adventure getting it to the spot but we did with with our neighborly help. He jokingly said we owed him five hundred pesos, but refused the money we did try to give to him with laughter.
So the plan is to restore it, get it running and convert it to electric with lithium ion batteries. How long that will take, no one knows. One thing I do know is I'm excited.

I rememeber years ago when my neighbour often woke us up early in the morning after he revved the engine before leaving for work. I would love to see it when it's restored. And it's good to know that it will run on batteries. No loud sound!
Once finished the bug with be a force to be reckoned with. Super fast and super quiet.
Wonderful post @lily-da-vine! We have always loved Volkswagons in our family, especially the older ones. What a great project for you. Upvoted, resteemed, and shared on twitter.
Nice find. and a very interesting idea for the project, an electric bug!
Please post your step by step progress, I'm sure you will get a heap of followers, might even fund the project!
But the best part is you will get lots of really smart Steemians throwing ideas / tips at you re the "digitization" of "CryptoBug"
Maybe we need a 'timeline' proposal first off?
My life circumstances do not make a timeline of anything an easy task
What a great project! I hope you're able to get that little Bug up and running. That would be so cool! You go!
Nice post, I hope the restoration goes well for you.
