Located on the southwest coast of Lanzarote island, El Golfo is a tiny fishing village surrounded by the Timanfaya National Park. In its small size this little village has countless beauties that it’s impossible not to be fascinated at first sight. How to get there? El Golfo is a village at the end of the country road which comes from Yaiza: from the last roundabout when you leave the village Yaiza in direction to Playa Blanca there is a sign to El Golfo.
El Golfo stretches along the coastline, it’s characterized by fine and black sand, that creates exceptional colour contrasts. You may also drive on the very interesting and exciting road from the Salinas at the Playa Janubio - the salt pans between Yaiza and Playa Blanca. From here the road follows the coast line through rough black lava fields. You will pass the sightseeing place "Los Hervideros" (washed out lava caves at the rocky cost) where you can walk through the lava rocks watching water and waves underneath in the lava cave.
When you drive further on to El Golfo you will have the feeling that the lava ashes and black lava rocks just have been fallen down from the sky last week - everything seems to be fresh and it looks as just happened.
In addition, this small and peaceful community boasts several excellent seafood restaurants – great places to enjoy a tasty meal while enjoying a beautiful sunset and magnificent views..and maybe sipping a good local white wine!
A culinary experience not to be missed when visiting this area of Lanzarote.
