"Thing is, hope's for sissies." ― Dr. Gregory House

Disclaimer: Grumpy ranting and grim outlook inside

Some people say Steem is not about content, Steem is about people. For someone who has maybe, possibly spent or even wasted a lot of time seeking and curating decent content on this platform, it is a hard thing to hear. I must be an idiot for doing so. Rewarding people for actually good, original, authentic content. What does it even mean? What people? People with good contacts and friends? Pulling some invisible strings? Stroking egos? With more people joining every day. What is Steem to become for them?

So it doesn’t matter anymore what content people put out there, we will just reward people. Look, this one seems like a good person and has a nice smile. Nice wallet size. Follow and upvote/autovote. Congratulations, you posted! What? Doesn’t really matter. Drone mode on.

What people? The ones that will come to your blog to squish out some generic comments without any real interest in you except to stroke your ego a little to get that sweet comment vote. You are lucky I want to use my voting power for actually good content and haven’t exercised my flags much yet. Sometimes I wish I had a blowtorch at hand though.

What people? The ones who instead of becoming part of the community and making friends from all around the world will say, fuck your idea of organic growth I want my money now, and buy votes from bidbots and other vote selling services. The system allows it. Are you an idiot for not doing some rewardpool raping yourself? Morals are so boring.

What people? The ones who are ignorant of the issues. All is well for them, why bother about some shitty, little minnows who just started out.

There is more. Sorry for not wanting to support some people (I wish you were different) and not sorry for actually looking for people who are not the above and supporting them instead. Till communities arrive.. soonish. We are not all rotten at our cores.

hope might be for sissies according to House, @m31, but you have to be strong to be a sissy. Be strong. The platform won't survive without people having genuine fun :)

Oh I have no intention of not being strong, just venting. I was so overdue on some good venting, lol. Genuine fun part is what everyone should do :)

😂 That's how all the circle jerking begins though; people supporting people just because they have nice smiles and really cool accents.

Will communities change the situation? I don't know. I have doubts though because for most using bid bots is business sense, supporting familiar accounts is safe and the rest can have the rest of the sea to their selves.

Curating decent content is still a good thing to do. It is even better when someone you know on the platform drops good posts most times. That is not always the case though.

I believe that it could be better but do not let it deter you @m31. Keep roaming the steemit platform and keep supporting great content.

It is not just the smiles and cool accents. It is the hope that if you befriend them they will vote you and that is really dirty approach. Funny how often they are blind to the fact of how visible it is to everyone around.

For now it is only guessing game of how communities will work and what the effects will be. We don't really know.

Thank you and will do ^^

It seems we are all feeling the affect of Steemit growing and the inevitable exploiters that come with that growth... (Twas the whole reason for the video I made the other day).

Sometimes I wish I had a blowtorch at hand though.

lol!

So, all I can say is, you are right... We are not all rotten to the core.

There are some (many?) of us who care about more than the money... And indeed recognise that by only caring about the money, the purpose is defeated, because in that way, Steemit will die.

Thus, I'll remain hopeful. I'll continue to try inspire others to keep posting content that is beautiful /inspirational /educational /entertaining, and doing so with effort and love for what they do (and of course to do the same thing myself).

And now, since I've had little time for Steemit, let me go see what I've missed from you recently... =)

Situation might change very soon.. ish. There might be something coming that maybe not all will understand at once, but if it works out, it will be great for amazing content creators.

Despite saying that hope is for sissies, I am still hopeful myself. It is just sometimes very hard to remain all positive and uplifting when you see how little some people care about something you love.

Oooh, I'm super curious now. Care to elaborate? ^^

And yeah, I'm with you. Rants like this can be very healthy! ... Both for you, and because, there's a good chance someone might read it and realise they're part of the problem, and maybe feel inclined to change...

I feel a lot of what you say here. I enjoy the getting to know people, I enjoy reading a good piece and writing an honest reply because I gave the writer the respect of reading the whole thing, I upvote because it was earned, but find that unless you fit into a little click you don't get rewarded by the very same people that bitch about uplifting the community all the time. Ironic as I thought being on here and it being called a steemit community we are all part of the same community. Good piece

Violet for some reason always seems like YOUR color. Nice photographs you got there my friend. :)

Thank you :) I love purple and violet tones a lot. Specially when painting something, those are the first ones I want to reach for. Somehow they seem very mysterious and nuanced.

Hello friend and you have a lot of reason with your content, everyone has a different vision about what works in the network, and different objectives that do not even make sense. We must work much more and know what we want to get to do, I still have a lot to learn but little by little I learn from these good contents as well as this one I just read. Greetings and Blessings.

In my opinion, it is a combination between creation and interaction with people. You are quite right, there are many users who vote for themselves and do not help the community. regards

Personally I think that steemit is simply a network created with the purpose of creating original and quality content, where those people who meet these simple requirements are rewarded for their work, for this reason they are rewarded mostly by people who excel when creating very good content , however, they go hand in hand with the interaction with other users, remembering that we not only have the opportunity to post our content but also to vote, comment and even share those of other users that we consider good.
