🕵📷The deceptions we will encounter with landscape photography at the beginning📷💎 - PART 2

Deception # 2 - I need gradient filters.

I do not deny the use of gradient filters. Yes, they are sometimes extremely useful. However, the effect of the gradient filter can be digitally reproduced in post-processing. I myself used gradient filters for a certain period of time, but at one point I found for myself that their minuses are more than the pros. Dear ones, working with them takes time (they still come with a holder and a bunch of rings for each lens), they scratch easily, can make the picture quality noticeably worse (especially if you do not notice leaving a large greasy fingerprint at the center of the frame ), the inexpensive ones give a lot of colors, and those that are really neutral - they are expensive. And most importantly, their effect is irreversible. Yes, if you accidentally darken a tip, you may try to lighten it afterward in post-processing, but 100% will be visible. I hardly ever think of a case where a snapshot of several frames can not replace gradient filters.

One case where the use of gradient filters would be unthinkable. Even the most expensive ones would not be able to cope with this situation because the horizon is far from equal, and the contrast was just murderous.

If I had used a gradient filter, I would probably have gotten some kind of picture - a nasty abnormal dimming at the top of the rocks, even with a soft filter.

Tip: Learn to assemble wedges from several shots, possibly with a hand with layers and masks. Yes, it will be difficult at first and it will not happen as you wish, but no one was born scientific. After a few unsuccessful attempts, the success will come. And when you think the technique limits you, the only way to keep moving is by improving your skills with the photoshop.
