In light of shark week premiering in just a few short weeks, I wanted to share one of the most thrilling encounters I have had while traveling.
Swimming with whale sharks.
Some may say I'm crazy, but let me tell you just to swim along side a creature 20ft+ long is an out of this world experience. Also, don't be fooled by their title, Whale sharks are among some of the gentlest creatures in the ocean.
Here are a few fun facts I learn from swimming with these sharks.
1. Whale sharks the largest known fish!
1. Whale sharks are not whales, but in fact sharks!
They most likely got the name from their similar size and appearance to whales, but can be positively identified as sharks from their side-to side tail movement and gills.
3. They are among one of the three shark species known for being filter feeders
A whale shark's diet is made up of primarily plankton captured through a filtering process.
4. Despite outward appearance, whale sharks have around 325 rows of teeth.

Hi Madison,
Your photography is really good!
Thanks for sharing it!
As far as I know they are not dangerous?
You are 100% correct! Since they are filter feeders, they are among the gentlest creatures in the sea! In any matter, it is an incredible experience to be in their presence.
Yes, sure! The biggest creature I saw was stingray. Hope to see whale sharks someday )
