Well... the answer is yes and no.
People are often afraid of weather condition so if outside is raining they don't go out with their camera. It makes sense on a certain degree if your camera is not weather sealed. A few rainy drops are not a problem also for not pro camera, different story if you want to shoot during a storm or monsoon, in this case a weather sealed camera is necessary. Also the lens need to be weather sealed. Remember that weather sealed doesn't mean waterproof!!!!
During my travels happend to shoot under really heavy rain, so heavy that my camera was completely wet like it was put into the water, the lens was in the same condition.
The camera also fell on the ground different times and after all this is still working perfectly.
So let's be carefull but not too much, cameras are made to take photographs and nothing should stop us to go outside and shoot.

I totally agree with you. Sometimes it´s more important to take a risk than to be too careful. The wet camera looks totally familiar to me :)
Yes sometimes we are too scared of doing things in general.
it is crazy when you see what a Canon 7d can survive. most of the dslr's are not that easy to break.
