Khoisan Bushman in the Heart of the Karoo.

in #photography5 years ago (edited)

Khoisan hunter with bow and arrow.

These are images taken deep in the heart of the Karoo of some Khoisan out in the veld/field.

The Khoisan also known as Bushman or "Hotentots" or shortened Hotnots the name given by Dutch settlers (could be considered derogatory) are indigenous people who are predominantly found in the Karoo region of South Africa.

Khoisan family gatherers.

They have their own unique dialect which incorporates the well known clicking sounds.

Photos taken for use on a friends photography site. You can see some more works by visiting the site.

Nice photos!!

I'm glad the natives are still keeping their old traditions and culture for the next generations.

Indeed.

The pics are awesome! The fact that you took them makes me wonder what it's like to live near a tribe like this. I assume they are friendly, and don't mind having their pictures taken?

Thanks. Very friendly and hospitable. Very peaceful passive people. Me being from that region and classified "Coloured" means I probably have some Khoisan blood. 😬 so maybe they related to me a bit.

Different cultures is what makes our world beautiful. It always fascinates me seeing how indigenous people live off the land.

Indeed. Thanks for comment

What great captures, @michaeljn. Fantastic heritage to claim - if you can - and preserve.

Thanks :-)

I've never been to South Africa nor have I ever heard of the tribe Khoisan.
Thanks for sharing with us..
Would you write another post more about them

You welcome to visit anytime😊 we have a wide range of different landscapes across our provinces. It is beautiful. Those are stunning photos! That second one has me leaning in to see what is in his hand too. There's so much movement in it it's almost a video. Really really good. Do you live near this people?

These are some great photos @michaeljn, you're lucky to have access to them. Great post! 🤞🤞

That's interesting. Do they do their clicking with their tongues? I'm just guessing, but it sounds strange that's the way they'd communicate. Of course, several species of animals, or insects, do the same thing.

Click consonants and yes it is spoken using the tongue. If you google it you could find example audio.

Great post, @michaeljn. I love to read posts that teach me something I may not ever have known otherwise!

Thanks. This was just a brief intro on the subject. May do a more informative post soon, exploring the culture a little more. Thank you for commenting
