This is my sister’s calico cat, Yoko.
I believe she is named after the chick who wrecked the Beatles, but I’ll have to check back with her about that.
So for anyone who is unfamiliar with what a calico cat is, here are some quick points to inform you of the basics:
- Calico cats are not a breed of cat, but rather a term for cats that have three distinct colors on their fur, usually orange, black and white.
- Calico cats are almost always female, this is because the gene which contains the cat’s fur color is stored in the female X chromosome. Thus the only male calico cats are those that have a rare condition in which they have more than one female X chromosome.
- Calico cats are considered to be of good luck in Japanese culture, and are sometimes referred to as ‘Money Cats’ in the United States.
So anyways, what does the Steemit crowd think, is this cat cute?
Wow she looks like my cat tinkerbell @mpd very cute good pic
Thank you :) it’s funny, because my sister bought it a few days after I had just researched what they were.
I’m hoping there’s something to this lucky cat business!
A cat has more bones than a human; humans have 206, but the cat has 230 (some cites list 245 bones, and state that bones may fuse together as the cat ages).
