Common Questions

What we are looking for in the winning photo?
Your image should be original and show aspects of creativity that depict the way you see the world.

Will my photo be seen?

Yes. Each photo will be viewed as long as you have followed the rules.

Can I enter photos that weren't taken this year?

Yes you can, however submitting newer images is recommended.

Can I use other hashtags?

Yes. You can use four other hashtags. Just make sure you include #steemphotoawards as the fifth tag. This tag should appear in the body of your post and with the other four tags at the bottom.

Are watermarks on my images allowed?

Yes watermarks on your photos are allowed

I want to enter multiple photos. Can I do this?

Yes you can, but you will have to transfer 2 SBD for every photo you wish to enter.

Can I win multiple times?

Yes you can, if you have more than one winning photo.

I have transferred 2 SBD to @myday and I have included two or more images in my post. Will my entry still count?

No. Your entry will not count. This is a violation of the rules and will be disqualified. To be eligible with more than one photo, you have to transfer 2 SBD for each additional photo. So, for the post to be eligible with two photos you will need to transfer 4 SBD (2 SBD per photo).

I post many photography posts a week but have somehow not heard of this contest. Guess its cause its just once a month.
Photo contests are my favorite. I don't like the fee aspect but if it filters out shit entries then thats a good filter. Also if it helps facilitate a quality contest then its good too.
I will give you a follow for sure and consider entering. I have lots of gorgeous landscape shots.

@quinneaker thanks for your comment. I have been promoting the Steem Photo Awards at the bottom of all my posts. I'm quite new here so I guess you haven't seen much about the awards.

If you have a look at the winners you will see why I put in extra effort to make this a premium photography competition. You are correct in saying that it weeds out a lot of bad entries. At this point in time the prizes of 100 SBD in total far outweighs the entries fees coming in, so I'm basically giving it away.

I'm all about giving back to the community to. I love to share my photography knowledge and help others - like in this post. Thanks for following and I have certainly followed back.

Indeed, I checked you out on my own accord, I can see you have value to contribute and you care about being a part of that.
I wasn't saying you were trying to make money on the entries as I do see how much is being paid out. Just seems that it actually keeps a lot of people from entering, however if thats what you want to do in order to weed out low quality entries its the best filter in my mind. If you WANT a lot more participation I would recommend getting rid of the entry fee.
Also the way most successful competitions are successful is getting a "whale" sponsor who is happy to throw down 100Steem in order to help steemit community engage.

They are certainly some good points @quinneaker. I'm happy using my earnings from posts to fund the Steem Photo Awards. Overtime it might grow, who knows? At the end of the day it's just about challenging a few people to really try and take better photos :) thanks for your support and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Great connecting with you. I will follow your progress and defiantly consider entering one of your contests!

Congratulations to the winners and to you @myday. Upvoted, resteemed & will be in the News of the DPS.

Thanks @photo-trail! I appreciate your support as always. The photography community here on @steemit is very strong thanks to people like yourself. Keep up the great work.

Thanks for pointing out your contest to me. Well, at first reading the rules, I was a bit sceptic because of the entry fees. Probably a lot of Steemians feel the same at first.

But after checking your Winner's Announcement post, I think you put a lot of work into judging. I really like that you don't just name a winner but give an extensive critique of the entries. This way we can improve.

So, I've saved your contest in my bookmarks and I consider to enter if I manage to get some worty shots in August.
Cheers!

@okkiedot thank you for your feedback. As I mentioned in a previous comment I joined @steemit to contribute and support the community. I give back by hopefully offering insight into photography from my own experience. Here's a good example where I don't accept rewards for sharing my knowledge

Yes, it definitely is a good example! I enjoyed the read and already found something new I can use for a quick edit, when I don't have access to my laptop and Lightroom (Lumix TZ91 --> Smartphone --> Snapseed --> Steemit). You have a new follower, I have to take the time and go through your posts.

I'm glad you found it useful. If you ever have any questions on your camera let me know. I've been to the Panasonic factory in Japan, so I know the camera well. Happy to help out.

Beautiful and peaceful

Hmmmm..... so basically you are charging people to participate in a contest you created and where you will be the judge...
Sounds dodgy to me I am sorry to say...

If you want to make money off the site i do not feel this is the right way. Just give the earnings of your post or something...

Just my view here
I would not mind participating but would not pay for the privilege

This isn't for everyone @felander. I feel you shouldn't judge me on just one post. Please have a read through my posts including my introduce yourself post (my first post) and you will see that I'm not a money hungry person, I'm just someone who likes to support community, not destroy it. I would prefer to give more than the earnings of a post to the winners. Thanks for your feedback though.
