Today I will tell you two small photo stories about Philippine crabs. The first story about a coral crab. They can often be seen in the branches of corals during a night dive. During the day such crabs hide and find them difficult.
These crabs are very beautiful, and I like to shoot them on corals. The truth is I try to choose the case when they are outside the coral. The same one sat deep enough between the branches. I carefully watched him, hoping that he would come out of his hiding place. He refused to go out. But it turned out that behind his claws, he hides the laying of caviar. I already had to settle down next to him and try to make a photo as it is.
It's not easy to make a photo in such conditions, but it's quite real. It is much more difficult to establish sources of light. So that the crab was clearly visible and there were no strong shadows.
The second story about porcelain crab.
At first he just sat in his anemone with open traps. I made a couple of common shots and was already going to float away. But something stopped me. I decided to watch the crab again. But then this moustached handsome man began to show some activity, different from their usual attempts to escape.
On the contrary, he ran along the anemone in my direction. As it turned out to a small piece of algae trapped in an anemone. Apparently it was a good dinner for him. He began to grab the seaweed with claws, tearing off a piece, after a piece, and sending it into his mouth.
He ate very actively. Helping yourself with all parts of the body. Even traps. In this photo, what looks like a mustache and there are traps in the folded form. So he continued to eat until absolutely nothing remained ...)
Both of these stories occurred on Panglao (Philippines).

Wow mate your images are top shelf! What set up are you using?
Thanks)
Usually I take the macro in the following configuration:
Canon 5dmk2 + 100mm Canon + 2Inon 240 strobes; Sometimes I add a wet lens to the port (+10 subsee or Inon +7).
The set up is not new. But unfortunately I can not afford to update it yet.
No way! Same set up as myself but I have a Canon 5D Mark III. Epic work!
splendid shots of crabs!
no wonder the first crab wasn't leaving the corals;
'twas protecting its eggs / caviar
the second crab has interesting color pattern and, as you say in your words, "mustache" lol
am resteeming this!
^o^
Thank you!!)
