Sumatran elephants include warm-blooded animals so that if the hot weather conditions they will move to seek shade (thermal cover) to stabilize body temperature to fit the environment. The place that is often used as shade and rest during the day is a dense forest vegetation.
Sumatran elephants include herbivorous animals thus requiring the availability of sufficient forage food in their habitats. Elephants also need tree-vegetated habitats for complementary foods to meet the need for calcium minerals to strengthen bones, teeth and ivory. Due to his lack of perfect digestion, he needs a lot of food, that is 200-300 kg of biomass per day for each adult elephant tail or 5-10% of his body weight.
