Rembrance week.
Many in Nederland learned about this at school.
A long war.
It took the Nederish people another 80 years to finally liberate themselves from the Spannish invaders. The battle of Heiligerlee, Oldambt, was the first win to turn things around. Count Adolf of Orange Nassau, family of the current royal family, won the battle and lost his life.
The Spannish were taken by surprise, not really knowing what land structure there was. The swamps played a major role in the win for the locals. And it has been said that it was on the 23rd of may 1568 the kingdom of the Nederlands came into excistence. Though it still took 80 years to get to a final victory over the Spannish. Which was signed in a peace contract over at Muenster, Germany {D(e)u(s)tchland}.
And even though Oldambt may be a small part of the world it's people always have been known for being substantive. Others might call them stubbern though.
Today ends the remembrance week with a final enactment of the battle. An open air theater play, a market, music and much more. The weather is great, so maybe I might go there and have a peek.

Zeggen ze ook over Zeeuwen dat ze stug zijn :) Blijkbaar was Vlissingen 1 van de eerste steden die zich van de Spanjaarden wist te bevrijden.
Verhaal gaat..
Spaans schip kwam aanvaren. Zegt gek 1 tegen gek 2 als je een kanon op dat schip schiet krijg je een vat bier. En boem :D Spanjaarden schrokken dachten shit.. volk komt in opstand en draaiden om.
Wrss rellen etc.. Spaanse burgermeester (van Vlissingen) opgehangen ... En bam Vlissingen was weer vrij.
Prachtig verhaal over Vlissingen versus de Spanjaarden. 😁👍
leuke filter lijkt net of het van een oude geschiedenis boek komt.
Op de een of andere manier vond ik deze er prima bij passen.

The strategy in 1568 was to lure the Spannish into unknown territory to them: the swamps.
Even though the invaders were a superior army, outnumbering the locals, they got outsmarted through guerilla tactics.
The struggle is very extraordinary, hopefully everything goes according to plan, I am very struggle her.
We must not forget history.
We must always remember history. because, with history we can know who we really are.

Every region and the folk that have settled there have their own history to be handed down from generation to generation.

The enactors in the campment do live like they would have done over here in the 16th century.
means it commemorates 444 years of historical past
It seems so long ago, imagine all the things that changed since then.
Oldambt has a great history, his struggles and all his remnants to be remembered.

This is really a cool rememberance , it actually brought my attention to my country Nigeria, before she could be liberated from the hand of her colonial master.
At some point or another any kind of united folk have been occupied by an oppressor of some kind from another region of the earth.
It is good to remember the moment when the people got rid off such an oppressor and could claim themselves to be free and substantive.
Hopefully one day all of humanity can celebrate their liberty together on World Peace Day.
