Amidst the last of the winter aconites, and at the same time as the lesser celandines and wood anemones, these nice blue little stars have popped up in a forest near my home town in The Netherlands.
I think these are in the genus Scilla, probably alpine squill (Scilla bifolia), called vroege sterhyacint in Dutch. Edit: according to Faltermann in the comments, these are Chionodoxa luciliae, and I am inclined to take his word for it, but as we don't have these in the wild in The Netherlands, it could also be Forbes' glory-of-the-snow (Chionodoxa forbesii), grote sneeuwroem in Dutch.
Originally from Turkey, these plants have spread to The Netherlands and are found in forests:
Olympus Stylus 1s, 42mm, ISO200, f8, 1/80s
Olympus Stylus 1s, 42mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/100s
Olympus Stylus 1s, 42mm, ISO200, f5.6, 1/100s
Another nice bit of colour in the forest and another harbinger of spring.
Thanks for watching!
Deine Aufnahmen sind toll und die Farben dieser Pflanze ein echter Hingucker. Bei uns konnte ich vergangene Woche noch keine Blüten finden.
Allerdings zeigt deine Aufnahme (Chionodoxa luciliae).
Als Vergleich hab ich dir meine Aufnahme von (Scilla bifolia) mal angehängt.
Thanks for the correction. As far as I know, we have no Chionodoxa luciliae in the wild in The Netherlands; could it also be a Chionodoxa forbesii?
There are several species of Chionodoxa. I compared the pictures again. It is quite possible that it can also be Chionodoxa forbesii. I'd classify them that way.
That is really pretty.
Unfortunately it seems spring has been cancelled in Denmark.
This is a small clump of crocus I passed this morning on my way to work.
They can't just cancel spring! Organise a protest, I say.
I wanted to, but it was too cold. noone showed up, not even myself. I did pass by the same crocuses? croci? whatever they are called in pluralis on my way home, and the snow had melted but the flowers was still alive and kicking - or you know standing, doing what flowers do when they are victorious
Fantastic photos! I have some that have popped up in my woods in recent years. First one, then the next year 6 and now 10 years later they have spread nicely!
I have not seen these in many years and they are so beautiful. I will have to trek through the woods this spring and see what I can find, if it ever stops snowing. lol
Surely, the snow will disappear at some point? Or do you go from winter straight to autumn where you live?
No we really are in Spring, but snow flurries and cold are still coming into next week. Soon for sure!
Fantastic shots. That's such a beautiful flower.
I never saw it before.
