The Little Blue Ones Are Here Again

A few photos, taken yesterday, of the common blue butterfly (Polyommatus icarus), icarusblauwtje in Dutch, enjoying the sun and a spot of lunch.

These photos were taken in very harsh light, but I think they are good enough.

Just enjoying the warmth here, nothing to eat anymore on this one:

They are so beautiful, those little blue ones. I'm not sure it's the same species we have here in the western USA, but we have some that look similar... seeing one always means that summer is not far now.

Indeed. And they are pretty, as are its blue cousins; we have several species of the "blues" here.

This one has had a presence in Canada since 2005, probably introduced by somebody, and is doing well there. There are also a few very similar species native to the USA.

The huge amount of light I don't think hurt the photo at all, in fact I think it was a huge contribution. With the first and last photos it really make the colors on the flowers and the butterflies really pop. They look so beautiful and eccentric, these are extremely beautiful photos, you should consider selling these. Gorgeous!!!

Er zijn nog een paar soorten blauwtjes in Nederland, en ze zijn soms lastig uit elkaar the houden. Maar de meeste zijn mooi blauw, dat dan weer wel.
