My life with the new DJI Spark

in #photography7 years ago

Hi there,

As you may remember I mentioned in my introduction that I have a drone. To be exact the DJI Spark. So this post is going to be about the pros and cons about it. I'm going to make it short and simple. And give the realistic review especially if someone of you is thinking of buying one.

"+"

1. It's size. As you might know it's very tiny! The biggest benefit of that is that you can take it while riding your bike. And still have plenty of free space in your backpack. If someone has held in their hand one of the phantom series drone they will know the struggle

2. It's very smart. Just enter in f.e. youtube "dji spark" and you will see a huge variety of different intelligent functions it has to offer. From gesture control to obstacle avoidance. And in my opinion it's a nice feature for amateur photographers and rookies.

3. Remote. Yes... I know... Most of the other drones have them.. But this remote is so small and so comfortable compared to others so you won't have any problems flying the drone.

"-"

1. Only 1080p. Yes, it's sounds a lot because most cameras film using that kind of resolution. But if you are a professional filmer, movie maker or planing to become one of these - buy the phantom 4 because it can record in 4k. But if you're only interested in photography or making your own small movies - the Spark is the ideal choice.

2. Flying range. Although the manufacturer says that it can fly up to 2km (1.2 miles) but from my experience i only reached about 400-500 meters. So that's a big flaw. Especially in the city where there are a lot of other signals that interfere.

3. It's size. Yes, I recently just pointed out that its small size is his strength but also it's his weakness. Because in windy conditions the drones has a hard time stabilizing itself. Also it's camera only has 2 axis stabilization and not 3 axis.

In conclusion buy it if it's your first drone but if you're planing to make a living from it - choose the phantom series or if you're a bit rich - the inspire.

Thanks for the breakdown. I'm considering adding either this or a mavic pro to my equipment. When in their bags they take up about the same space. I'm considering the spark because it's small size makes it less intimidating in public places because people see it as more of a toy. The mavic because of it's portable and does 4k. I already have one 4k drone, a Yuneec Typhoon, but the mavic would be much more portable.

PS- Include a couple of stills from the spark next time and you'll probably get more views. Right now the thumbnail for this post is blank. Just some friendly advice.
